Your name belies the dedication you have shown in accumulating such a great set. Congratulations. Your GPA voer 8 means you have some 9's, which are very hard (and expensive!) to come by.
I sold my high-grade set some time ago because the competition was too intense. I generally like to collect in the quiet little nooks and crannies of the hobby, with a few exceptions.
Best of luck in upgrading, that is a hard road requiring monumental patience and perseverance.

how long did it take to achieve this goal? did you have any off ebay transactions that helped get you there? with your connections in the hobby, did you ever come across ungraded cards that you sent to psa and were able to fold into your current set?

greetings rand,
i started my set with only 5 psa 8 cards on 12/18/2008 now with adding 48 cards psa 8 or higher i'm #5 on the psa set registry i'm pleased to say. purchased very few cards on ebay. most came from 5 other sources including a buddy of mine in the uk & a couple major auction houses to upgrade my set.
though i've graded over 20,000 cards at psa not one mars attack card in my set was submitted to psa.
however i plan to submit many really sharp psa 8s to psa to try to get 8.5 and perhaps even a 9 mint.
love and laughter,
slacker
ps i'm still on a quest for both #54 and #55 psa 8 or higher. if you can help with those, please do check out my ebay store popculture401k

Thanks for the mention, but you still did all the hard work youself.
Was I the only person who saw that PSA NM 8 #54 pop onto ebay for a hour or so,recently,or did I dream it?
Having to let go of my NM 8 set due to sticky finances, caused by greedy bankers killing my industry.
Have downgraded to trying to put together a 1962 Mars Attacks PSA NM 7.5 set....will take many years
if its possible at all? any one got the #9,#10,#11,#33,#46 or #51??? Would be very interested.
update on mars attacks new goal psa 8.13 set 15 months one week later

We collect for a number of reasons, I collect because I love the Monthly social side of the Hobby, meeting friends with the same interest and discussing latest finds and trying to fill gaps in cards that I have had since I was a kid, to improve the quality in my collection and not to put a value on each card or set.
At the moment I have about three sets of card inserts that I am concentrating on,one of them is British American Tobacco 'Butterfly Girls' which is nowhere near completed as a full set but each month I manage to get three or four more to add to the set. Once completed to my satisfaction I shall be very happy and as far as an end value is concerned this does not enter my mind.
I see no point in having an independent company tell me that I have a crap or good quality card and having then to pay for the privilege,
heck I have eyes,I can see what I have and if I'm happy with the end result of my endeavours then that's how it will stay.
I don't buy to sell on for a profit, that's what dealers do, I buy because I love card's, I never sell, maybe trade on the odd occasion so my cards are with me for the duration.
As for value, profit or gain, that's for someone else to worry about once I'm gone.
I look foreward to your replies.
Cheers Alex W*******.

Mars Attacks is the classic 1960's set. While I'm not a big registry guy I can certainly appreciate that set in high grade condition. That's what makes the world go around as well.....people being able to collect what they love in the manner they love to collect it. If I ever come across any high grade cards, I'll let you know!

greetings alex,
i could of built a raw or even psa or sgc low grade set dirt cheap and enjoyed the dark haunting beauty of the artwork for this set as i truely think this set is norm saunders masterpiece. but i choose to build a high grade psa set since not only to i collect high grade popculture gum cards as you could see in my ebay store popculture401k, but i concider this hobby/addiction my popculture401k.
i find gum cards are a heck of a lot more fun than stocks or bonds, or gold or silver to invest in.

greetings tom,
thank you to anybody that can help me upgrade my set now or can in the future. or has already helped me upgrade my fav gum card set. i'll even break my 1940 superman or 1967 star trek psa high grade sets for good old fashion trades of mars attacks psa 9s and perhaps 8.5s, so hit me up folks

I can see where your coming from and as an investment your on a win win situation so yes get the best that you can cause when they are gone there ain't no more.
For me and probably millions more it's just a hobby a way to interact with like minded folk and every third Saturday in the Month get together for a chin wag a cup of tea and don't let us forget those Bacon Roll's.

Congrats on your fabulous accomplishment. Only patience and determination could have achieved what you did.
As a matter of curiosity- if this is not too crass a question- what do you estimate you have spend on assembling yoru set? I suspect it will be well wroth it.

greetings BB,
perhaps it's silly or foolish, but to keep in the spirt of pure collecting like i did back in the day when i collected garbage pail kids at 10 years old. i decided to not treat collecting my mars attack psa set NOW upgraded to 8.21 on the registry as an investment, instead as a fun hobby by neglecting to keep track of the money spent building my fav gum card set and reaching my 8.25 goal.
love and laughter,
slacker
ps as always anyone that can help upgrade my #4 on the psa set registry mars attacks set that is interested in a trade in my ebay store popculture401k please feel free to contact me. THANKS IN ADVANCE
