Todd - wow, those are sweet.

That's it -- I'm hiring a gumshoe to follow you on the weekends.
Gotta find out where that Ohio flea market is!

Too funny Ralph!

Someone else said they were going send some guy named "Hoffa" to follow me around. I guess that was quite a while ago though.

An interesting side note on these....

The group I picked up was missing 2 cards. I knew I had one card but wasn't sure what it was. When I dug it out I discovered it was one of the 2 that were missing in the set. That rarely happens to me!

(now if I could only find a #19)

I wish!

I cannot tell a lie - these in fact were NOT a flea mkt pickup. Very pricey but lots of fun!

Yes Mark they are pillaging Vikings, they are miscut to say the least and after closer inspection some of the swords and axes have been drawn in later!! Total crap. I am not counting on anything with the super hoops yet. a way to go yet but great result in injury time on Saturday.

I picked these menko up a few days ago and are dated to around 1969. I am not sure how many are in the set, but probably 16, 24 or 32. These are extremely tough to find because the popularity of menko was at low point in the late 1960s/early 1970s and not many were made. I usually only find singles for sale. This set has the only confirmed menko of the Apollo 11 astronauts(Top center menko). Aldrin, Armstrong and Collins from left to right. The text reads "3 Astronauts" along the bottom of the menko. That is one giant leap for mankind on the upper, left menko.

I decided to pull the trigger. It's the earliest of the BTA "TINS" and especially nice as it features one of the actresses depicted on one of the cards (condition quite nice as well and rarely see one offered). Interesting to note the actress is not from the very first series - presume that it was issued after the actual series card. I've never seen an attributed date to the tin nor what would have been the accompanying tax stamp. I always think of the heaviily embossed square 50 as next in the line due to it's styling - but really don't know. I think I've seen an early 1900 cancel on that one. As the Minnie C. tin is a simple 2 color pocket tin - a mid 1880's date seems about right. Anyone have sumptin to add?

Now I just need the card happy.gif Off to the gallery to see if the image is the same but think it was.....

I rarely get excited when viewing the monthly pickup areas, but your pickup is a gem I'd
love to see and hold firsthand. It's a real beauty and I'm very happy it's in your hands.

Just felt the need to compliment one of our "senior" tobacco collectors.
