I have not been to happy with PSA as of late and would like to grade over 100 1959 Fleer 3 stooges cards. I would like to go with SGC but I am not sure if thats a good idea as do not know if non sports cards sell well if they are in a sgc holder. Any help would be appreciated on this topic.

Hi Larry, Perhaps you should go to ebay. Thats www.ebay.com. click on collectibles, click on trading cards, click on other, type SGC into search box,Click highest first and finally click completed listings. That will show how much non sport sgc cards are going for.
That is , of course if you have not sold them yet.

Yes, I had done that and there was so little there for both psa and sgc that I could not get a definitive answer. I was just hoping that some of you that deal with graded non sport cards would have an opinion for me. Thanks for responding.

Larry,
Just did a quick check and 8's from each service seem to be going for roughly the same, in the 45.00 range. PSA has graded almost 18,000 cards with 64 basic sets registered and SGC has only one set on the registry, you could take the #2 slot with SGC . Not sure if you're looking to sell or collect but if selling, personally don't think it would be worth grading if the cards are less than near mint (with the exception of cards 1,2,3 and checklists). Good luck whichever you choose.

Thank you Richard for the help. I had bought a non sport collection in 1993. It had a complete set and many extras of the 1959 stooges. Many of them were very sharp and many were off grade. I broke up the set about 3 years ago with the thought of getting the nice cards graded eventually. I got good money for the 1,2 &3 con sidering the condition. Sold off all the others that were not up to par on ebay. Saved the best 100 cards and put them away until now. I would say 50 of them are sharp with great centering and corners. Those are the ones I am getting graded. Still have all the rest of the collection which has some amazing stuff. I always dealt with baseball but it is time as non sport stuff seems pretty good right now if you have the right stuff. Thanks again for your help.

On the 1959 Fleer 3 Stooges Set, One collector (Twinighter) has the top 11 PSA Current Finest sets plus another set at No. 13. While amassing these sets he has paid outrageous prices ($72,000 for the three checklist cards for example). One day these sets will be sold and when that happens I expect the price to crash. As far as I know twinighter has stopped buying and prices have already started to come down.
Richard you pointed out something similar happening on the R21's now that Aaron & I are only looking to upgrade.
Just thought I would share this info.

I remember reading an article about the deep-pocketed collector a year or so ago in an issue of SMR Magazine. If I remember correctly, the 1959 Three Stooges are the only card series he collects (amasses) because of some connection that gives him with his son (if memory serves). Otherwise, he's an independently wealthy porcelain collector. I can probably find the article if anyone is interested enough for me to dig it out.

Found the article online. Reading back over it, looks like he's stopped buying up Stooges and moved on to T206's. I found his fascination with hippopotomi...interesting.
I need to convince some third party company to start grading automobile literature.
Then I need to convince two independently wealthy individuals to start collecting graded automobile literature, and send in some of the items that I have which are the only ones known to exist to be graded and then auction them on ebay!
I well remember when the individual in the article was collecting stamps.
Jon.

I believe in collecting QUALITY over QUANTITY when it comes to porcelain. So I only have ONE PIECE, But that one plate is worth more than, well, I'd rather not say (this being a public forum and I don't want to invite robbers). It's quite beautiful though. In fact, I'll scan it for you and post it here (let me just lick the pizza grease off my fingers, since they are kinda slippery). Fire up the ol' scanner and carefully remove the plate from it's alarmed display and... woah Woah WOAH!!! *&%$@!!!
Oh well, guess I better clean this mess up.
Why, oh why hasn't anyone created a porcelain grading service where they seal the plates in plastic protection cases so these terrible accidents would stop? OH THE HUMANITY!

Put $500,000 in there before you flush it and you'd get the same effect if you ask me. But then I'm not a connoiseur of either porcelain or hippos, so what do I know?
