The top picture shows some cards from Italy, I couldn't resist
buying the bizarre card of Mae West with a Nazi flag and the
complete butchering of Katharine Hepburn's name. They also
got Cary Grant's name wrong and even President Reagan's name
wrong, no respect. The coin completed my set and also shows the
USS Midway, which is now a floating museum in San Diego.

The Flag cigarette box isn't new but I thought it would be
interesting to show it with the Flag actor cards.

Interesting Card is an "Understatement" Mr. Finn

Unique find, Mark....for a variety of reasons.

As you know, Roscoe Turner was sponsored by Gilmore Oil. Roscoe also named his pet lion cub, "Gilmore"....and it looks like "Gilmore" the lion cub is pictured on the card. Also, it looks like Turner, not Hawks is pictured. Turner had a unique uniform, and I'd bet that's Turner with Gilmore in front of the plane.

The "57" shown on the wing is also another trait shared with Turner. Turner's tail number incorporated "57" on his plane that was entered in the World's Greatest Air Race (The McRobertson Air Race of 1934).

The print code looks cryptic...at the moment.

Unless memory escapes me, I believe Hawks did travel with a pet dog named "Speed"... Hawks was also sponsored by Texaco (short for the Texas Oil Company I think). Hawks famously flew the Texaco 13 Mystery Ship among others.

So, Turner and Gilmore the Lion Cub featured on front, and Hawks bio on the back of the Heinz card...cool card...there must be a good story surrounding your purchase?

Unique is an Understatement...

Greg,

Your Kellogg's Tatoos are from a set of six different sheets of
nine tatoos that came in Kellogg's Shredded Wheat in 1949.
I need number 3 to complete my set.

One enjoyable aspect of collecting is the hunt/chase of cards trying to complete sets. However, there are exceptions to that rule and this is one, the Fry's Treasure Island Map. Always wanted one but didn't dare try to complete this one at a time. 50 total cards required at 5 rows of 10 cards. A special thanks to a board member for making this a reality. It did go to a good home happy.gif

The color on these 6 cards is much better in person and the cards are really paper.

Charley, just checking in on the April pick-ups, and found that Greta Garbo card particularly striking in the SGC holder. I love the way she seems to be peering at me out of the blackness through some kind of peephole. Nice!

I'm also still really digging the Fry's Treasure Island Map set that Richard picked up. One of these days (when I have more expendable income) I would love to pursue puzzle-back sets like that and have a hallway lined with nicely-framed completed puzzles. Love 'em!

Lance you're right that cards of Greta Garbo is striking. It reminds me of all the movie you've seen of the 20's and someone going to the speakeasy to get in and the little panel slids back and you tell'm Joe sent me.
