important find for me.......

think I've mentioned my 97 year old poker playing friend Morris Weiss before. He did the last few years of the Mickey Finn comic strip and worked with Stan Lee on a few different comic book series in the 1950's. Sorta like Joe Dimaggio (sp) and Marilyn Monroe where Joe wouldn't sign certain things relating to Marilyn - Stan Lee apparently has been in a bit of denial about his pre-spiderman work. Finding this booklet will complete my little assemblage in tribute to my buddy - can't wait to have him sign it!

Possibly a new favorite. A large 7 x 9 premium identified in the gallery as S106. Unfortunately I have not been able to learn much more about it.

A "small" 1955 Topps Hocus Focus-I now have two from this indeterminate set. These never come up, so I grabbed this one even though I had a type example.

Very very happy to add these to my E-UNC collection.......three animals and a very politically incorrect African cook......from 1910....similar to the E125 American Caramel directs. Same lithographer (PR Warren).

Mr. Moses, I love that little booklet. Stan has been "The Man" behind Marvel Comics for so long, I never even thought about him having PRE-MARVEL work! Nice find!

How's your buddy doing these days, by the way? Did you ever get him to tune in to the boards at all?

At a show today and picked up a few things. Not shown is a Popeye puzzle from 1942.
The sepia photos were part of a lot and I picked it up because of the Hess Salvini. The other two are Langtry and Anderson. If someone knows how to make the images smaller, please share.

Well, I had to split the scan, but the dealer talked me into this one. Sometimes you have to try something new.[linked image]

Pick ups at New Zealand Annual Card Show

No score for this post
May 5 2012, 4:33 PM

The New Zealand card club (Cartophilic Society) had their annual large card show in Mosgiel during the 28th/29th of April. Great show with various items for sale. These picks are what I picked up of NZ related items (If you're wondering why there are some old womens mags in the pic, the ones from the 1970s also included a cookie bear club page, and as I collect anything to do with this NZ cookie character I gotta have them!).

Thanks for taking notice. VERY happy to have it. As for Morris - he kind of is in his own world these days as he doesn't hear and doesn't care - he tells me "yes Henry" quite a bit happy.gif His poker game as bad as I imagine it was in his youth but he likes to get out. Drives himself to the games every Friday and Saturday night. He doesn't own a computer - doesn't watch TV - and has probably heard enough of what his wife wants to talk about in 70 years of marriage. I don't imagine he'll be participating anytime soon.
