I've been working on a PSA Alien set (currently 3rd on the PSA registry) - a few of us have been competing on the available PSA graded cards, and recently 4 Sharp Corners has been grading a lot of them and have greatly increased the amount of available graded cards. For the most part the prices are reasonable ($8 for PSA 8s, $14-20 for 9's) but 10s are going for $50, which is pretty steep for a readily available late 70's set. I'm also working on a Space 1999 set and the prices for graded cards are roughly half of the Alien set. Unfortunately, I think the few of us (3-4 people) who are interested in the Alien set are driving up the prices. Still, if you get a box for $90 and get 3 graded 10s out of it, you profit. I do assume the $90 for a box was an outlier, though. - Dave

But how much do you have to pay for grading all those cards? Guess you're only pulling the 'best' ones out but does the $90 for the box pay for it? I guess if you're getting $8.00 minimum for them, you're absorbing your costs but seems like it could get expensive.....but that's the game....

Don't get me wrong, I agree completely. I've bought several boxes of other cards and didn't pull a single card that would be a 10. Very depressing. I actually prefer buying from dealers that grade in bulk because they can get cards graded a lot cheaper than I ever could (volume!) - I was just guessing about the guy who paid too much for the wax box. Two Alien boxes are for sale now for over $100. I'd be shocked if they sold.

hi dave-thanks for the info on why the selling price was so high...im wondering if i open my 76 star trek box if it would be worth it...some sets are really hard to find 10,s...i had 10 sets one time of the 1962 civil war news and didnt have one 10 that i could send in...i got 1 set graded with a few 9,s...best of luck in your serch-rich

No way should anyone pay close to $100 for a box. About half that is right.
9's and especially 10's aren't easy from the set. Its really hit or miss. From what I have seen, a couple dealers are having a tough time getting 9's and above. The population is less than a dozen 10's and about 75 9's from over 400 subs. Most of those high graded cards came from the recent 4 Sharp Corners batch.
Out of the 3 boxes I have gotten, I think only 1 will get me a PSA 10 or 2. With 1 box I didn't even get any possible 9's. Another should get me around 6 or 7 9's. Plus stickers from packs are always in bad shape.
If anyone has any 10's from the set they want to part with I'd be glad to pay $45 a piece. Also looking for stickers PSA 9.
Scott
