figured you would see this here as you and Todd must have card magnets with all you guys post here (paper envy).... Greg if you were refering to the cubeb cigarettes in the april pickup thread - they were NOT tobacco and as such......

Todd,

You continue to amaze with quality and quantity, quick count has it over 225 bread cards in this one pick-up posting...WOW.

The Living Pictures - first time I've seen them - look like the Shredded Wheat circus cards.
What are the cards underneath the Living pictures?

PS - the 10 plaks I have are from the same series you posted - Seems you are correct in your thinking both series "Real Plaks & Valentine Plaks" are the same.

Henry - if you look back at the posting there is a single card believe it's classified as N491.
The back reads: "Watch and Wait The Great Sensation Duncan Clark's Monster Combination is Coming Sure" the Mitchell-Forbes book mentions companies other then tobacco advertised on the same N491 cards, but the wording is such that I can't tell tobacco or not?

While on the topic of N491s, I have a group on the way that advertises Rueben Cigars, St James Cigars, and maybe one other - anxious to get my hands on them and share. While doing some research I saw Tom posted an N491 (couple years back) that was tobacco and not one listed in the "book."

I think there are quite a few uncataloged N488, N489, N491's......and some that are found with different backs other than tobacco. I have 4-5 of those Duncan ones Greg...

Todd is the undisputed heavyweight of bread cards. Fantastic stuff. I've been picking stuff up off ebay here and there for the bread cards but Todd always has an in with the bread 'pickers' doesnt he. I really like those views of the world Weber cards....I have a couple dozen of them and would like to add more but you don't see them often in larger groups. Same thing with the Weber gold and silver foil movie stars. Also like them.

Some pickups from the month.....

My first Sea Raiders high number....easy stuff completed....now the long arduous journey....
[linked image]

Ditto arduous journey on the Goudey Indians....basic 216 completed now picking up others....group of (4) Series 288's....
[linked image] [linked image]
[linked image] [linked image]

Nice Royal Desserts Stars of the Sky....
[linked image]

Nice group of mostly high number Jungle Gum to fill out my 2nd set...don't know why two sets...that's what happens when you have too many dupes. This one looks like a Noah deal as there are mostly pairs of them.....
[linked image]

My third Strange True Stories.....slow going on this set too....
[linked image]

Some purchases from a board member that will be on the way....
Durkees, T400 ATC, T175 and Willards V102 type.....
[linked image]

Neat O-Pee-Chee King Queen of England type and a couple CJ Sports...
[linked image]

Group of V148 Robertson Military Medals.....
[linked image]

Wanamaker Siam Flag and E4 Cushing....getting CLOSE on the E4 set. Need a few upgrades though.....

Greg,
That set is called "Nice or Nasty Valentines". Oddball Topps issue that I didn't have. They have die-cut stickers with various words and you were to select one, peel it off and fill in the blank areas on the main card. Sort of like a Mad-Lib. It's called Nice or Nasty as you can make it come out sounding sweet or mean.

The Living Pictures may be one of the first 3D card sets. They have a copyright of 1926 and the glasses are called a "Macyscope" as "Macyart" had the patent.

If you want to sell your duplicates of Jungle Gum,let me know, I was the 2nd high bidder on the lot. At $5 apiece I think you got a good deal and pretty nice condition. Your not alone on the 2 sets thing, it seems like every 30s - 50s set that I collect I end up with at least 2 and in some cases more.

I won these N283 "Defender & Offenders" in eBay auctions last Sunday from a seller in Nanuet, NY. All of the backs are minus the prizes list; it could be that they were in a group for the past 125 years.

in any condition. Funny with all my searching I didn't see it. I have yet to buy one for my special "folders" N type set. I need it in at least vg/x and figure 200.00 or thereabouts is MY limit. Every time I pass (3/4 times) the price is nearly double what it was the time before. I think the first time back in the mid 1990's I passed at what I guess with negotiation was 150.00. I suppose my assessment of need is exceeded by others - part of what keeps the hobby going - although personally as the all-too-often underbidder on many other items - I often think of my bids as what helps keep the hobby going. Without me there would only be opening bids.........

You ain't alone Mr. Moses! My Snipes were not even close! VERY nice pick up there, my friend..very nice.

These just seem to be getting out of sight in terms of my desire & budget last few years.. like EVERY other Tobacco issue I like!(sigh)

Thanks Tom, I rarely know when I'm going to "take the plunge". I consider myself a collector of opportunity and kinda hit on what comes up that I can afford. I'm really enjoying the bread card thing. -Jack J.
