JUNE 2013 PICK UPS

Actually, since I haven't had time to post much lately, these are more like April through June pickups.

photo 1-3_zps14834256.jpg

photo 2-3_zps1c757d3e.jpg

photo 3-3_zps19351720.jpg
Last seven I needed for the Blatz set.

photo 4-3_zps92a27a30.jpg

photo 5-3_zpsb0046cad.jpg
When he was about 7, my dad collected half of the "Zorro" set. He passed them on to me sometime when I was in high school. One of my goals this year was to complete that set. Thanks to four different vendors at the Philly Non-Sports Show last month, I was able to make that happen.

photo 8-2_zps5e36297f.jpg

photo 9-2_zpsd71370d8.jpg
Apparently these were either soaked from an album or stored in a damp place. The eBay listing didn't mention that, but for about 50 cents per card, I really can't complain.

photo 10-2_zps927ff009.jpg

photo 11-2_zpscec9290f.jpg
The sticker and card in the first column are from the Fleer set. The rest are Cocoa Puffs premiums.

photo 12-2_zps9950f2f0.jpg
That's a "Pulver's Pictures" card at the bottom right. Very happy to cross that off my "type" list.

photo 12-2_zps9950f2f0.jpg
Last 11 I needed for the "Yule Laff" set.

photo 14-2_zps5533a13e.jpg

photo 15-2_zps8f60c36d.jpg

photo 16-1_zps0c9d1719.jpg

photo 17-1_zps49ef9cf4.jpg

photo 18-1_zpsb2f5216d.jpg
It's not in the greatest condition, but...

photo 19-1_zps8be04e33.jpg
...how many "Fighting Marines" ad panel cards am I ever going to have the chance to own?

photo 20-1_zpsc2ed4931.jpg
I had all four of the exhibit actress cards individually, but I thought it would be neat to have them in an uncut panel.

photo 21-1_zps3738ea24.jpg

photo 22-1_zps80af0d04.jpg

photo 23-1_zps74879c7b.jpg

photo 24-1_zps1ffc153e.jpg
Sorry this one came out blurry.

photo 25-1_zps88f73e50.jpg
Doeskin issue.

photo 26-1_zpsadabe18a.jpg

photo 27-1_zpsa90c8676.jpg
Last five I needed for the "Troopers" portion of this set.

photo 28-1_zps694e0286.jpg
Front...

photo 29-1_zpsce233bfc.jpg
...and back.

photo 30-1_zpsb19a03fb.jpg

photo 31-1_zps2962bc4e.jpg
Not sure what country these are from, but I like them.

photo 32-1_zps7fc6eb54.jpg
Wish the coating wasn't so worn, but it is what it is.

photo 33_zps7361e8b8.jpg

photo 34_zps9adfd5f5.jpg
I was really surprised I won this lot.

photo 35_zps03fe15e5.jpg

photo 36_zpsf3726cfc.jpg
"Wise Ties" has been on my want list for a long time.

photo 37_zpsc93c2d89.jpg
Never thought I'd actually see either one of these, much less have the chance to buy both within two hours' time! But that's one of the great things about collecting non-sports... you never know what opportunities are waiting just around the corner.

Are you cornering the market on advertising material? That's a FANTASTIC piece! I assume it has some restoration work performed? Thanks for posting it!

Thanks Tom, it has had some minor work done but overall very little. One of the nicest I have seen FWIW.

Cheers,

John

from an auction? It really pops, that's for sure. You're going to have to build an extra wing on your house with all this wall hanging items you've been procuring lately. Is that pretty much your focus right now---advertising/banners/etc?

p.s. love the Baseball vignette in the lower right.........

Thanks Tom, this was a private deal. I do like them a lot not sure if its my only focus but I do really seem to be excited and attracted to them almost more than cards. I know what a horrible to thing to admit on a public forum. happy.gif

Luckily in a new office so more room than home but finding wall space is getting tougher not going to lie. happy.gif

Spirited bidding in EBAY ending with the securing of 3 of the
last 4 needed rope border cardboard posters.
My last poster of that set, which I bid approx 125.00
sold for over 170.00

Bottom line - I still have just 2 completed cardboard poster sets.

The fourth set, the silver border set,
won't be completed in my lifetime.

A big, big thanks to Allen McHenry, who help me complete this set with these 3 cards. I was kind of hoping he was going to send the Howard Hughes and Amelia Earhart. Well at least I got to hold them when I visited with him. Again a most generous deal for the 3 cards.

I pick up older cards sporadically. Picked up these 1951 Topps Ringside at a local estate auction. Fortunately, the John L. Sullivan and Gene Tunney cards are the nicest in the group:

Webster post cards

Ken,
Yes, there are 9 in the set of Webster post cards. A Great colorful set.
You are lucky to find a complete set. I've been looking for #5 & #6 for years.
The Ten Centurys set has a title card - that seems to be the hardest to find.

Cigarette collection

No score for this post
June 10 2013, 3:07 PM

I bought a small collection of Cigarette packs.
My first entry into these. Henry coached me or I might not have bought them.
There are 67 packs.

These are the only packs that had any kind of an insert. Majority had stamps.

[linked image]

The N-60 card is mint
[linked image]

pack is dated 1877 - 1879 stamp is cancelled 1883 - N342 has light glue on back
[linked image]

I have two trade cards for this Co. - insert is a product info. card, not really a insert card item
[linked image]

The next 2 images are front & back. Pack dated 1880. Question is this an insert card???
similar to the Marquis card. Card is not quite as tall as the Between Acts
