March Pickups

I had been looking for an example from this set for quite a while, I had never even seen one for sale so I wasn't expecting a group. Nearly impossible to find E244 McBride-Rothschild Confection Co. Movie Stars. Also, the dating needs to be revised as one of the studios listed on the front of some cards is "Éclair" which was a studio that appears to have gone out of business around 1913-1914. Given the subjects I think this set is actually a 1913 or so issue...

Pardon me if I sound too critical but personally I'd rather see multiple front and one back, that being said if you happen to have duplicate and would like to part with one I'd be interested.

Dang, you guys are tough to please! Here are some front pictures as well...

The most interesting of the bunch IMO is Dorothy Gibson, she survived the Titanic sinking and would star playing herself in Saved From The Titanic later that same year (1912). Interesting cards.

I got the photos I need from the closed auction......congrats on the pickup. I only had about 6 check listed and only a couple types in my collection.

Thanks Rhett!

Can you display them in numerical order now? (that's a joke of course)

Tom, that's an awesome R2! Nothing wrong with the condition for a card like that, in my book. Still, I couldn't bring myself to pay $250ish for the severely trimmed example in the Legendary auction. Someday....

no idea as to the true value

March 4 2014, 3:14 PM

but at least I got this one for 200. less than the last guy paid for this exact card in 2012 happy.gif Progress has been slow and I'm no whale so I have lowered my condition standards just a bit on a few cards. That won't prevent me from enjoying them and the chase....

March 8 2014, 6:41 PM

Attended the local card show today hoping to knock a few cards from my want list. Instead I started four new sets lol! 1969 Man on the Moon, 1965 King Kong, 1966 Rat Patrol, and these beat up 1972 Topps "Laugh-In" cards. Had to include one of Goldie in a bikini, and also a special #64 "door-card" from the set. Looks like there are 33 regular cards in the set, and then up to #77 with these special cards.

I hadn't seen this neat little 26 p. booklet before on the Burdick collection. Same format and type as the ACC. Not sure when it came out or where it came from. Happy to add it to the collection.

March Pickups

March 16 2014, 12:36 AM

I don't collect German cards, but found the art on these Sinbad cards irresistible.

[linked image]

Here's a mixed batch of stuff including some R10 Cameron Sales Airplane cards, a Fairyland Stories card of Dick Whittington, a mov-i-graff bread card, and a Guess What wrapper.

[linked image]

And a group of postcard sized Wanted Posters, some with Hobby Trading Post backs and some with blank backs. I understand there is a Nu-card set with this art, but I couldn't find much info on it. - Jack J.

Jack
Nucard also issued this set in standard card size in cello packs. Included in each pack was one folded up poster.

March Pickups

March 16 2014, 10:59 AM

Thanks Jim, It must be a pretty obscure set as I see none on Ebay, and it's not listed in the NSB. I'd love to see a scan of front and back of one of the cards. -Jack J.
