OK. I'm cheating a little - yes south Florida still acknowledges that today is the last day of May AND I also accept I recently had the honor of starting a monthly thread. Next to my recently acquired Goodwin Champions round album - the Anson has been high on my list forever. That said - I think this iconic card worthy of the job - with a qualified note that the less lofty cards needed to complete my few sets are EACH nearly as important to me as the Anson. They're usually just cheaper. PSA graded (heading for SGC when I get to it - the future grade unimportant except if it EVER is offered for sale). It presents VERY nicely for it's grade - the back is clean with no PL.

Hi Charley,

Your N245 like card is a N276. 1 of 3 multi-image cards issued by Lorillard in this series.

Henry - great pick-up on that Anson. Super card!

June Pick-ups

A few of these came in May, but they went so well in June I thought I'd procrastinate.

A Misc. group including three blank-backed, unlisted Swift's Brookfield Butter "Brooksie" cards, an F369 Magic Yeast Menagerie Monkey, and a couple of trade cards that I just liked.

[linked image]

Two die-cut "Jump and Stand Up" animal bread cards. I guess a rubberband between the slots made it pop up.

[linked image] [linked image]

Four very large (4 1/4" X 8 1/4") Kolb's Mother's Bread 3D animal cut-out cards

[linked image] [linked image] [linked image]

And last, what I'm most enthused about, nine "The Big Circus" cards. I love these cards. - Jack J.

Henry - Landmark card..too bad it's a sports card...happy.gif

Jack - I love the Circus cards - really neat

This first item is not marked in any way and when I saw it thought it "had the look." It was framed and under glass, when I got it home, blank back. Does anyone recognize the image? Do you think it is an actress/stage person of the time? Does this look familiar to anyone? It's raised and measures approx. 5 3/4 x 7 1/2"

This card I did some research on after buying... General John Bell Hood was a noted Confederate Civil War general who moved to New Orleans after the war. In 1878-9 there was a terrible Yellow Fever Epidemic in New Orleans that killed his wife and then he died leaving 10 destitute children. I believe this picture was sold to raise funds for the remaining family of John Hood. The youngest kid noted on the card is 2 months old, making this card from 1879-80 time frame (my guess)

I picked up a mixed lot of over 100 cards on eBay earlier this week for about 60 cents each; I was very pleased with the results!

A few special pickups, as well: Doeskin Rails and Sails, Topps Funny Flash Cards test example and a low-grade Joe Palooka.

June Pick-ups

Hey Todd, Does this mean you have a duplicate Kitchen Klenzer Elephant? I've got a beautiful facsimile that I could send back to you as trade-in goods.

I remember buying the Wacky Wax Dinosaurs in the early 1980's in a small gift stand in the large office building where I worked in down-town Los Angeles. I still have the full set of 36 in green. I wonder if the blue ones were distributed in the 1960's and the green set was a reprint. There would be no reason that the gift stand would have had old stock. At the time, I was more into dinosaurs than cards.

Todd, could you show the back side of the Albers Oats box? I've got quite a few of the Woody Woodpecker cards, but have never seen the box. These cards ring some kind of nostalgic bell for me, and may be why I started drawing as a kid.

Pick-ups for June have been kinda slow. I did get a couple of Canadian candy wrappers. Thanks to Bobby Burrell for sending the Cowan's ads that confirm the use of this wrapper with card sets. The two Neilson wrapper are probably too new for the Neilson card sets - anyone know? Jack J.

Also, here is the back of the Alber's box...
