October pick ups

These HOW cards arrived today. Mostly high numbers but six low numbers as well. I'm getting close on HOW. Working on securing another batch as I write this.

Topped my 100th pickup of IG for the year which pretty much knocked my expectations out of the park for this set for the year. Four series of 24 and a low skip number series of 48 in this group. Narrowing down some of the easier stuff leaves me with more of the harder series though...

[linked image]

Lower grades but these two put me at 18 of 30 for R14 American Historical Characters; sometimes I'm happy with whatever comes my way.

Thanks to John Hardgrove for making me aware of this album to compliment my Crazy cars bread set:

Lastly, remember this pin back; you will be seeing it again before the end of the year...

Daniel - Some nice looking HOW cards including one of the tough ones.
Jeff - Thanks for adding one more rug to the Gallery.

The G-Men and Navy strip cards are rough, but they fill some holes and I'm glad to get them. I enjoy many of the cut-out cards and the Donald bread card is a nice addition. - Jack J.

I've been AWOL, working on a project for the past few weeks, but that doesn't mean I haven't been picking up cards!

photo IMG_1237_zps7t8thcrr.jpg
This one was an eBay pickup. The rest were through the generosity (purchases, trades, gifts, etc.) of board members.

I'm loving October so far. These arrived today. The True Spy Stories #1 finishes my set while the other two upgrade a couple of very poor condition cards; welcome upgrades. This Action Gum takes me down to needing only two. The Planes #9 was an opportunistic buy simply because it is a #9; I needed the other Planes card for my set. Both are red backs.

[linked image]

Up to four Dare Devils now; going to try to put together a mostly EX set if possible. Beautiful Ships is an upgrade; it's a great 1930s set available for a reasonable price.

After receiving this Batman my blue puzzle back set is finished. The I'm Going to Be is an upgrade:

Tom - Great looking French cards. The only "Indiana" cards I have are six Indian series cards. The French/China cards are beautiful. - Jack J.

I believe this to be representative of how the Orbit Gum Smackers were distributed (sans gum). There's been quite a bit of discussion on the different Orbit Gum wrappers, but I didn't find any that came right out and said that this was an actual wrapper. It has been treated as an insert or give-away with the Orbit Tattoo gum. Supporting my contention are the glue tabs indicating the wrap-around aspect, plus the awesome sign card (not mine) shown in a previous thread by Todd which identifies these as wrappers. - Jack J.

Tom,

I was a bidder on that French group of cards; largest group that I have ever seen.

Jack,

Awesome Orbit Gum grouping. I love stuff like that.

Really nice pickups.

Jason, I do like those. Thanks for the additional link. I wonder how many cards there could be in this set?

Jack, those are great! Nice to see conclusive proof of how they are distributed.

Todd, the 1992 Sport Americana guide shows a card numbered 114, but notes that there are unknown titles in the series and lists the set total as "?" Besides the one I won on eBay and the links to the two trays I posted, the only other ones I've seen are the one pictured in the Sport Americana guide and two that Greg Gallagher posted on here among some weekend finds earlier this year.

Here's a nice grouping of R773 1947 Indian Gum cards. I only had two of this set so this is a great bump-up for me.

Another group, this time it was Movie Star Pennants. Plus a Skinners Raisin Bran premium Magic Book associated with the F281-3 Magic Trick Slips card set. - Jack J.

Thanks Jason,

I have been searching for a long time and would have never guessed that I would hit on so many at once. I really lucked into these. Found an old ebay listing online while doing my usual searching for anything related to the company. Contacted the seller and he still had them. I am still in shock about getting them and for a great price at that. I have paid more for a single soldier than the entire lot. Thanks again for the kind words and happy hunting.

Best Regards,

Chris
