| Fun pickup, first example of this Tobacco Album I have ever seen (one of the tough non-card related titles). I was surprised how small it was, only about 5" x 6-5/8" or so, smaller than I was expecting...

Some decent pickups for me. Leader discs are tough to come by so happy to add this one. Some set builders and some upgrades.
The IGs are series of 24s. If you know me at all you know that I love adding R722 Novel cards to the collection. Need only one Defending America to complete the set. Wasn't a big strip card collector but I might go after a few others; I liked putting this together. I traded out a couple of Cops & Robbers from my set to help a more advanced collector with his master set endeavors; these were the incoming portion of the trade. Huge fan of Dare Devils and a couple of Action Gum upgrades.
Nice group of Flag Gum, in decent condition. I knew that the Canadian set of Hunted Animals was larger, but I had no idea exactly how much bigger; the US card is for size reference only.
Uh, can anyone say cool 1930s wrapper? A T221 Champion Swimmer high number; one of those sets that I don't know why I am working on it but can't stop now

Hey Tom, na..just plinkin.
I got on this strip card kick again last couple months...talk about UNfocused!
Really like the mayfair & universal (not shown) stuff ..early, simple and somewhat crude compared to the 30's R cards and ever so fragile..hard to believe these lasted.
I think I have it out of my system and will be back to 30's , some N & E and have taken a shine to some pretty modern (1960's) issues.
I TOO : MUST RESIST WRAPPERS MUST RESIST WRAPPERS MUST RESIST WRAPPERS (grin)

I too have:
a) gotten 'on' strip cards before......agree on unfocused.
b) bought at least (3) of the climax Lillian Russell cards. There must be a LOT of them. Have two different versions now...............

Finally got a group of things worth showing. It's been a dry spell. - Jack J.
Marble Gum Pack. I suspect it came from the 2009 Legendary Auction where 14 unopened packs and 1 opened pack were sold. With that sampling, if I open it, it will be 6.5 times more rare than it is right now. The Magic Fairy Prints cards are fun. The backs look blank, but when rubbed with the right object, an image appears.
The die-cuts are from a variety of distributors.
This oversized Kellogg's die-cut post card is interesting. How many different ones are there? Who was the "Singing Lady"? How did it make it through the Postal Service intact?

Thanks, Ken, for the info.
Todd - I doubt she would have made it on TV if she was fat.

first sighting of a "coolio" auto card!
Mr. Boxing..your diversity in things you have never ceases to amaze me.
Fantastic Voyage lyric reference = extra points and thumbs up.

Jack,
I was just worried that you had stopped collecting.
Don't they say it's all over when the fat lady sings? |
|
 boxingcardman (Login boxingcardman) | Re: February Pickups | February 5 2016, 1:23 PM |
That was probably the only line from Fantastic Voyage w/o an f-bomb in it.
There are some great rock autographs in the last several years of offerings from various mfgs doing Americana type sets. I've picked up mfg certified cards for Ringo Starr, Billy Idol, Coolio, Rev Run [Run DMC], George Clinton. There are a few others I have my eye on but they cost too much right now. |

Great stuff everybody.
Henry: thanks..its pretty random, wish I had held out for a better but she'll do.
JJ: I thought you had been MIA here lately too. L O V E the marble gum AND your quip about rarity.
Boxing: You have to hear the radio clean edit. (smirk)
While very much NOT a fan of hip hop/rap there ar4e a number of fellas and vidieos from a few yaers back I have seen, that are pretty funny/clever or have a general "goodness" to them ..that was one of them.
I guess I should not be "amazed" since you do collect a lot of AUTO'S...Agree there are a TON of em out there nowadays on cards.
Which leads me to;
NOW: hip hop/rap THEN: Beat scene and Jazz Scat
NOW: Popular celebs on cards THEN: popular celebs on cards.
the more things change...the more they stay the same!
DANIEL: I have a bone to pick with you. Not really..ok.yes!....your last few months pick ups?
Not Seal Craft or Cops but almost every other item you post..you and I were top bidders. (sigh) I guess great minds think alike?
If nothing else..it gives me a little peace finding out who won so many of these I lost on!
Edited to add my Daniel comments

Charley & Todd - Without getting into it, Rosemary had some pretty serious surgery with 10 hrs in the O.R. and 10 days in the hospital. She's doing great now and mending a little more each day. Sometimes real life gets in the way of collecting ... I hate it when that happens. - Jack J. |
