I went to the GALLERY-ACC-FILE and
copied information
[linked image]

Also, I see Little Beauties
have TWO N60 issues....type 1 and type 2

Is there a
Little Beauties or A&G collector
that can expand on this information ?

Anyone know when the Cartophilic Society of Great Britain's book on North American Photographic Tobacco Issues is coming out; CRB 152? It is supposed to cover the details of sets such as N 60. Does Martin stop in here from time to time?

as far as I know

Mr. Murray has only posted three times or so and all within the last year. I think his first post was at the same time the US issues book came out from the Cartophilic society but I could be wrong. Most recently to post about some new book - perhaps what you're talking about gummy bunny. Maybe a search will yield some carrots?
Of note - unsure what transpired but he did appear on the Mastro list a few times. No idea what the extent of his involvement was - if any at all. Same as with a few people whose names I recognize - although a couple of inferences can be made in at least a few of the cases even by a blind man.

Hmmmmmm - bunny boy - in re-reading your post I'm wondering if you're talking about the book already out for a while? All my stuff packed and I don't remember what it's called - but if you are asking about N60 seems reasonable it's the same tome.

Hi Henry,

Martin's most recent book, CRB 151 C19th U.S.A. Tobacco Issues Index & Handbook, was published in 2014. It's a really great book, even for someone like me who doesn't collect the stuff. Anyway, in the introduction he mentions that there are additional planned books.

CRB 151 (current book) covers all nineteenth century U.S.A. insert issues except photographic plus albums and banners excluding pins and silks.

CRB 152 (planned book) covers all nineteenth century U.S.A. photographic issues

CRB 153 (planned book) covers all remaining North American insert issues except silks but including Canadian issues, pins, and probably leathers. Also overseas issues by U.S.A. firms (T400+)

CRB 154 (planned book) All North American non-insert (point of sale) cards by manufacturers and specialist dealers.

In CRB 151 as you read through the N series cards set by set he will defer the descriptions and details for any photographic set, such as N60, to the upcoming CRB 152 book.

Daniel

For the T400+

For the T400+ books, The 'Tobacco War Book' by the CSGB is a great book. It's a tangential book to the WTI and covers the T400 issues really well.

Reference books

February 16 2016, 5:55 AM

Thanks, everyone, for your interest in future American reference books. Although numbers have already been allocated, in practice the next title to appear will be RB153. This will mainly comprise the "T" series, but will also include pins, leathers and Canadian issues. At this moment nearly all the lists have been completed and checked. What remains is the preparation of all the illustrations and then the painstaking process of pagination in order to present an easily accessible and readable volume.

At the same time work is proceeding (slowly) on the C19th Photographic series for RB152. This is however proving to be a most daunting project. Several volunteers have already produced lists of the smaller firms and Allen & Ginter. However there still remain to be tackled giants such as thousands of subjects by Duke, Kimball and Kinney. And looming at the end of the queue is the problem of how to present the series with no captions; these will obviously need to be illustrated, but hundreds of extra large pictures? Ugh!

The preparatory work for all the Cartophilic Society's books is undertaken by a small group of dedicated collectors, some of whom have no particular interest in the subject that they are preparing. My job is that of an editor, although I am fortunate in many cases of having the actual cards in order to be able to check the listings. In a sense I am the log jam, but I feel relatively happy to see a backlog of work for me to do. But it is noticeable that all the work seems to be done on the Eastern side of the pond. Are there any volunteers over there?

Hi Martin,

Thanks for popping in and providing an update relative to the Society's future book projects. Your collective efforts are greatly appreciated.

I'm mainly a collector of 1930s R cards so I'm not sure what I could do to help but if there was something that I could contribute I would gladly do so. Nine out of ten people are simply looking for direction; I can take it as well as the best of them.

Help!!

February 20 2016, 1:21 PM

Congratulations, Daniel, on being the only volunteer. It was very kind of you, and you can see what I am up against. I need someone who has the ability, and in particular the patience, to convert printed lists appearing in the old Cartophilic Society reference books on to a computer listing with self-generating numbers to allow for additions & corrections. You would need the original books, a little computer knowledge and an enormous amount of time and patience. Do let me know if you qualify.

Martin
