Wanted.........

Wanted to get up there this weekend. My buddy JD Heckathorn does that show. I've not been there. Been to the Pittsburgh show a dozen times or more. Strongsville, even in the day, was a good show. The stars just never aligned. When I was doing shows, I did Cincy, Dayton and some Columbus shows but the 6 hour ride to Cleveland was a little far. Think it's about 3 for you though right? Are you doing the Mutt/Jeff series now?

I had two of these oval, stand-up bread cards from another bakery. It's great to get more from the set. -Jack J.

Yes Tom, they are blank backed and are 3.75" by 4.5". The other two I have are hand stamped with the bakery name and it is illegible, so I was glad that these have professionally printed names. - Jack J.

Nice to see the typical variety in the pickups this month. This pickup of three Wrapper magazines brings me to within thirteen for the complete run. Been working on this run for a while I guess. I enjoy reading the back issues when I pick them up. See some familiar names and many not familiar; wonder what happened to so many of them.

Todd, great variety of pick-ups. Love the Mystic Colored Picture cards. One of my favorite bread cards sets. How did you manage to get five cards that I don't have? Any dups? - Jack J.

Good looking month so far guys.
This is from universal toy & novelty, but first a story............
Walt Disney created and sold Oswald, his first cartoon, to Universal Studios (no relation) circa 1928
and expected to continue selling to them. But problems arose and Walt moved on,
leaving Oswald behind.
The following is an excerpt from disney.com:

On February 6, 2006, in a trade described by film historian Leonard Maltin as something that has “never happened before and never will again,” ABC sports commentator Al Michaels, actual human, was traded from ESPN to NBC for a black-and-white cartoon character—Oswald the Lucky Rabbit. “Lo and behold we were able to negotiate a fair trade, and as part of the deal Oswald the Rabbit came back to Disney,” Disney chairman and CEO Bob Iger said following the swap. “Little did I know how much attention this was going to get; the reaction was huge. Even Al Michaels sent me a note in disbelief that Oswald had gotten so much more attention than he had.” The story of how Walt Disney lost Oswald—and how he returned nearly 80 years later—is one of the more incredible sagas in animation history.

Jim, I absolutely love that Oswald piece! I've never seen it nor any cut cards from it before. However, I do have the upper left-hand image on the back of one of the Comic Cards issued by Universal Toy and Novelty. It makes sense that they would reuse the artwork.

Hey Tom, Strongsville is relatively close at 100 miles, took my time getting over and back, they have Starbucks at the rest stops happy.gif

Not actively pursuing T88's but pick'm up when I see'm cheap enough.

Scored some nice T70's from WRAPPER advertiser Walt Meder, they have some tough Buffo backs on them. Marty would be proud of me....

Been an active pick-up month, great stuff fellas!

TTYL!

of 1964 Beatles Black & Whites. But only two I needed for my set.Thanks.

Been a while since I got a vintage wrapper. One like this sold in the November Heritage Auction. Does anyone know anything about "Real Air Service Insignia Wings" that might have come in the wrapper? I would have guessed that this was from the 1940's, but most of the airplanes are biplanes. Any idea of vintage? The images remind me a lot of those on the 1941 World Wide Gum Sky Birds wrapper. It this really a production wrapper from Gum Inc.? Thanks for any info. - Jack J.

Very nice wrapper, Jack.
Pretty sure insignia from WW11
Felts, buttons or pins most likely.
Only thing similar I can think of would be Mason's Silver Wings.

Thanks, Jim, for your perspective on the Air Service Insignia wrapper.

I love Non-sports cards, but I especially love original packaging. I guess that's why I collect wrappers. This Snow White Jingle Book is cool, and came with two of the D86-1 bread cards, but it's the original envelope that got me excited. - Jack J.
