I picked up a partial set of 1967 German Kampf Um Den Weltraum (The Struggle for the Universe). This was made by Heinerle out of Bamberg Germany. The set walks through the development of rockets and the space program through 1967.
Koberich lists this set catalog number as the 30825-25 made in 1967 with 190 cards. This set has an English-language parallel set that is identical on the front except that the writing in the back is in English...Koberich doesn't mention this fact. Also even more unique is the fact that this set includes Neil Armstrong! Card #185...it shows him with David Scott in their Gemini 8 spacesuits in front of a satellite dish! I did a quick internet search, and only could find his 1969 Topps card as the earliest. Anyone know of an earlier card of Armstrong?

The set consists mostly of rockets, engineers, and cool space related images (I'm a space geek, and I picked up a bunch of other German Space sets). There are also some great images of other astronauts including Alan Sheppard, Gus Grisson, Ed White, and Roger Chaffee not to mention the famous Werhner Von Braun on Card #35.

Cards measure approximately 2 3/4" x 3 3/4".

Thanks, I should have checked their first. I've added a few sets to the Trading Card Database, I'll see if I can add this one. Here is a closer scan. If you looks closely, you can see the image is reversed. I wonder if they every corrected it?

Here is a 1966 Japanese postcard of Neil Armstrong commemorating the Gemini 8 launch of March 16, 1966.

As a postcard, I'll politely refrain from claiming it as a "rookie card".

Wonder what type of lipstick he has on the postcard? Oddly drawn mouth......

What does the back of the postcard show? It is interesting that it is referencing Gemini 8 as that is an Saturn 1B rocket used for Apollo and he is wearing an Apollo spacesuit. Just from the front picture, it looks a little later than 1966.

Here is the back.

I think you may be right that it is Apollo.

Can you translate the text on the front and the back? (the last characters on the back say "postcard")

The front says, 1 January Happy New Year. The backs says post office post card. It looks like this was probably issued right at the beginning of 1970.
