Hi all , just returned from an epic Tea Journey via Kettengradia
More updates of my WIP Irish Guards 2nd Battalion VC Firefly.
1st up I have added a small triangular mud guard piece made from plastic card near the rear idlers.
Next up I added the armour deflector plates on the driver/co driver positions. I replaced the Tamiya part with some plastic card as the kit part was a bit short for my liking. I added some putty along the upper and lower edges to try simulate welding marks.
Next up were the front mud guards. These were first cut off the PE fret using my PE cutting set ( clear plastic piece with small handle - u can see where you are cutting ). Using a ball point pen I ran it along the etched channel to get it to make the rib. After sanding I used the Fold it tool to push the inside part vertical. Then using some steel rollers on my cutting mat I slowly formed the curved shape , applying pressure to the part so as it formed a curve. Once finished I superglued the piece together and lightly sanded it.
The mud guards were then attached to the hull with superglue.
Using the roller set I made the light guards ( as seen in following pix )
I will attach these in due course. As to the periscopes - I did'nt take any photos of them being formed but they follow the same path of cutting , sanding and forming on the Fold It.
You can see them in place in these pix.
The compass holder / aiming blade etc are all part of Tim's PE set that you get with the conversion. Regarding the blade , I bent it into shape and then decided the best way to attach it was to heat it with a candle flame ( holding with tweezers ) and then MELT it into the kit turret. It worked a treat and a bit of superglue finished it off. ( Be careful with naked flames and solvents ).
A few things still to do before painting - I have the tracks ready for assembling , some small details to add and thats it nearly done with regards to construction.
As always any advice or help is much appreciated
