I have mananged to match the BS.33 & post-war 633 colour as used on most RAF ground vehicles from 1937 till 1941 then again in 1946.
Humbrol enamels:- mix 5 parts H32 dark grey + 2 parts H14 French blue + 2 parts 33 black.
This is the correct colour for RAF vehicles, not Humbrol 96 which is the RAF uniform colour. Please note the the new Austin Utility car was never used by the RAF.

Pretend.

You will have to pretend that it is a modern restoration, badly done.

Austin Tilly marks

July 7 2009, 1:21 PM

Mike:
Need your help for an accurate Austin Tilly, England, early war, in a country-side small diorama.
My knowledge in British markings is close to none and you are, for sure, the best one to ask, if you don't mind...
This is the scene:

Please help me chose the correct decals for this litle beauty, so I can finish this project.

Tank you very much, Hilton.

Army Austin colours.

July 8 2009, 12:29 PM

I am only just starting to experiment with Tamiya colours and so far not found any matches to the standard. Reading through the instructions the company are trying to get colours correct. I do not have the paints they recommend but I will get them to test. The 1942-44 two colour brown/black scheme is correct but they do not tell you how it should be applied. See attached for correct method. I do not know how close the brown shades are to the standard, this still needs working on. In 1941 the basic colour was Khaki Green G3 that is actually a yellow brown-green which is a very odd colour. I am still trying to make this. XF-58 for No.15 Olive Drab is far too green, this needs yellow at least to get it right. In the desert; I do not know what XF-59 looks like but bronze green is NOT a disruptive colour in the war, anywhere at all. These cars were road bound and used by rear area units so a single colour would be all they carried. In Italy then UK colours are used. Again rear area units. I am sorry i cannot at present be any more help, but I am working on it.
