Hi,
About a year ago, I asked for info on Israeli M50's and Paul Mcmahon was kind enough to give me some useful info with regards to the main gun. Finally, it's finished. So I'd appreciate any comments.
Regards,
John Bryce.

Hi,
It's "kitbashin". The front half is Tamiya M4, and the back half is Hobbyboss M4A3 (stretched) with a scratchbuilt engine deck. The lower hull is mainly scratch. The turret is Hobbyboss with lots of platicard and Milliput and the gun is RB Models Panther with a scratch muzzle brake. Running gear came from the Hobbyboss "Easy Eight". I made a mistake in using the Hobbyboss cupola though as it's too big. Should have used the Tamiya Pershing.
Cheers,
John Bryce.

Blown Away!

July 31 2010, 1:41 PM

Hi John , what a fantastic piece of kit bashing you have done with the M50. I am just sitting here with my mouth agape at the amount of detail and work you have put into this little gem.
Congratulations on reaching your objective - its a REALLY nice piece of modeling you have done happy.gif

Just love the neat build and all the detail work that has gone into it.

Thanks for sharing and glad I was able to offer a little bit of help happy.gif

Best regards

Paul

Hi Paul,
Thanks for those very positive comments. I have to say that it was a very enjoyable build, but it's taken a long while to get the pictures onto the site because of my lack of computer savvy!
I'm looking now to do the M.51 using the Hobbyboss kit, but I'm struggling with a source for the 105mm main gun.
Cheers,
John.

M51 gun considerations?

August 1 2010, 1:37 PM

Hi John , glad to hear that you are going to do a M51. In the vein of trying to help you might consider using a 1/35th scale Panther 75mm or the Su85 from RB Model ( or even the Porsche Kingtiger 88mm) as a suitable candidate for the basis of the M51 - 105mm gun. Thats what I am doing happy.gif Placing the 1/35th scale barrel on George Bradfords M51 1/35th reduced to 1/48th scale plans shows that the 75mm in 1/35th scale is a good match for barrel thickness in 1/48th scale.

Worth considering as it will at least give you a barrel to work with while conjuring up a new muzzle brake for it happy.gif

Hope this is of some help and I will keep my eyes peeled for a future M51 coming from your workshop happy.gif

Best

Paul

Hi Paul,
Thanks for the info. I'll see what the spares box can come up with. Meanwhile, I've got the Hobbyboss "Easy Eight" as a starting point and the Iron Division M4A1 late hull, so now it's just a case of finding the time.
Cheers,
John.
