I've usually used scrap brick and concrete that I find.....

During a remodeling project years ago, I saved all sorts of stuff, including enough slate dust to cover an armored division worth of tanks in "Italian" limestone dust. For actual miniature bricks, Fighting 48th used to offer an RTV mold you could use to cast your own bricks as you needed them, but Tim doesn't offer these any more. I do not know if anyone else does have molds for bricks or stones, but there was one for making cobblestones a number of years ago.
I recommend a book called ' Lets build Diorama' vol 1. Its covers building and building damage. Has many great ideas that are cheap to do and quick.
the best way I find is no1 to get real bricks, no2 place them inside a couple of plastic bags to trap the dust etc. no3 smash them with a hammer. no4 keep breaking the brcks down unitl you have enough dust and broken bits. Uses differnet coloured bricks and concrete for variety. guw ith pva mixed with water.
