I was scanning back through your SBS on the Firefly and noticed something. After the decals are applied, they are bright white/red/etc. After you spray the Vallejo Matte, they have not only dulled down, but changed to a more "dirty" off white. Note especially the rear deck star. Do you mix in any colored paint with your Matte or is that just the result of the Vallejo application?
Let me dig back into my memory....if I remember correctly, the decals on that kit were placed and then the flat applied. But the reason for the color shift is more than anything due to the exposure on the camera. That is; as the lighting changed, the color of the decal changed too, BUT....the reason I add the decals at this step is that the decals must get all the same treatments in the weathering steps as the rest of the hull. Since my weathering always tends to darken the paint, the decals become more dull as I go.
I hope this clears it up a bit, Pat. And if there is anything else I can answer, please don't hesitate to ask. Or you can email me with any questions at firstname.lastname@example.org. I'm always happy to answer questions.
