Diameter Type 10 / Leclerc Road Wheels

Hi modellers, I am normally doing 1:35 scale modern tanks and have a question in this forum.
I have a "toy-like" Leopard 2A4 from Aoshima in 1:48 scale.
As the Leopard 2A4 is one of my favorite tanks, would like to make a decent model of this kit.
The proportions of the kit look a bit cpompact, but overall OK.
The tracks are very bad, they are just rubber band. Also the wheels are pretty simple, they are more drums than wheels.
I found a track of 1:35 Revell "Jagdpanzer Kanone" which may fit my 1:48 model, so just desperately looking after wheels.
Checking the internet, I found only two kits in 1:48 scale which can maybe donate the road wheels.
In order to check this prior to a potential buy, I would need to know the dimensions of their road wheels.

I would like to know the diameter of the road wheels of:

1) Tamiya kit 1:48 - JSDGF Type 10

2) Gaso-Linee kit 1:48 - French Leclerc

Can you help me out?
Thanks / Stephan

Tomorrow...

December 13 2016, 8:23 PM

Hi Stephen, I will have that info for you tomorrow once I can find my ruler / micrometer

Best regards

Paul

p.s The Leclerc wheels might be of limited use to you as they are cast onto the mounting.

Gaso-line Leo2Ax

December 14 2016, 5:38 AM

Hi Stephan:

IIRC, Gaso-line is going to release a Leo2 in 1/48th scale but not the A4 batch but an A5 -?-

-I´m not sure which one is as I only have seen a pic or two of the pre-production kit some time ago-.

HTH!
Alvaro

Wheel dimensions

December 14 2016, 12:11 PM

Hi Paul and Alvaro, that is pretty helpful info. It seems that the Leclerc wheels can only be used with a lot of surgery. Disadvantage of the Type 10 is that it only has 5 road wheels per side, so need two kits. Have to think about how to go on. Checked the web, cannot find any built up Leopard 2 in 1:48 scale. In fact I hope that Tamiya will continue to release more modern tanks in 1:48.
Again thanks for the helpful info.
Stephan

Leo 2A6 option

December 20 2016, 11:00 PM

Another option for a late leopard is the 1/50th 2A6 from Empress. Pretty basic gaming resin piece but they can be detailed up. (Can't wait for the Gasoline Leo2 either!)

cheers
Brent

Type 10 wheels ...

December 23 2016, 9:09 PM

Stephan, this is just a suggestion but if you know someone who can resin cast a couple of Type 10 wheels for you that would eliminate the need for two kits.
I'd offer myself but I'm on the the other side of the globe and the postage would outweigh the cost of another kit probably?
Possibly someone else on the forum closer to you may be able to help?
Tim
