Putting Study in Britain

Geoff,

Usually I get so much unsolicited email that I sometimes start trashing it without looking. However, in your case, I am glad I received it. Your site is very impressive to say the least. Now I just have to pace myself in looking at your site in detail or hours might pass by unnoticed!

Here is a question for you. In the March 22 issue of GolfWorld Magazine, one of the short news briefs mentioned a study presented to the British Psychological Society. It concluded that "repeatedly watching video of one's putting or listening to an audio tape of oneself while putting can lower an individual's handicap..." There was no info on who presented this or when it was presented (typical non-scientific writing). Have you heard of this study, and if so, do you have any more info about it than what was presented in this news brief? I emailed the BPS and asked them, but have received no response.

Dear Ed,

Here is the press release from the british Psychological Society:
http://www.bps.org.uk/press/press.cfm?action=details&id=399

Here is the actual reference citation:

Smith, D., Holmes, P. (2002). Imagery modality and golf putting performance. Proceedings of the British Psychological Society, 75-76. Leicester: British Psychological Society.

And here is Dr Smith's profile page, with email and telephone number: http://www.chester.ac.uk/~kllamb/ds.html

I may try to get an interview with him to showcase this study in my April newsletter. Let me hear from you often, as I love getting this sort of request!

Geoff,

Obviously you have the putting universe well scoped out. Thanks for the info. You made that seem extremely easy!
