Dear Geoff,

I was hoping you could give me some information on short game viseos. I would like to find something that covers the gamut, so I can use that one resource as a basis to work on the various shots.

Here's a Handful

Dear Patrick,

I'm no short game expert, but here are some things to look at that I'm aware of:

Ray Floyd's 60 Yards and In:
http://www.golfvideosandbooks.com/shortgamevid.htm

This video provides clear, easy to understand instruction on chipping, pitching, sand play, putting, specialty shots and practice techniques.
60 minutes.

David Leadbetter's Short Game:
http://www.golfvideosandbooks.com/shortgamevid.htm

The short game is 50% of the whole game according to David Leadbetter. He has divided this video in to four sections: putting, chipping, pitching, and sand play. Within these four segments, Leadbetter gives drills to improve each area. He talks about understanding the techniques used and why they are important. He videos his students before and after the lesson, then compares the results. The lessons are easy to follow and are packed with extra Advanced Score Service segments for advanced golfers.

Ron DiZinno's Short Game (the Z-Man):
http://www.zmangolf.com/shortgametoc.html

Short Game Fundamentals with John Bermel, University of Northern Iowa - John Bermel takes a look at the fundamentals of putting, chipping, pitching, and the sand shot. In the putting section, he covers the grip, aim, stance, posture, alignment, and arm swing. Learn how to improve your distance control and how to correct pushing and pulling the ball. Guidelines are presented to help you determine when to putt, chip, or pitch from the fringe. In his approach to pitching and chipping, Bermel employs an easy to remember four-step approach to the set-up he calls GASP: grip, aim, stance, and posture. Learn how to chip various distances using the same swing, how to avoid hitting behind the ball on a pitch, and how to properly hit the blast shot out of a bunker. 1999. 35 minutes. GLV-1144A $29.95:

Scott Hazeldine, at Scigolf (the Natural Golf people):
http://www.scigolf.com/shortgme.htm

In his 40 minute golf video, "Mastery of the Short Game", Scott Hazledine explains and demonstrates the correct technique. He teaches the basic shots from green-side and from bunkers. Scott shows you how to handle those difficult lies in the bunker - buried lies, fried eggs, and side hill, uphill and downhill from the bunker and near the green. Scott demonstrates correct techniques for each of these golf shots.

Short Game Improvement - All four Championship Coaches participate in this video on the short game. Short Game Improvement covers technique skills for putting, chipping, pitching and sand play. The coaches discuss putting and the different grip techniques, how to read the greens, putting under pressure and tips for sound mental putting. Learn the difference between pitching and chipping and the general rules for each from clear explanations and demonstrations. Techniques for proper stance in the sand and how to hit buried lies are discussed and demonstrated. 1999. 39 minutes. GLV-1194A $29.95:

Short Game 101 with Patrick Goss, Northwestern U. - Goss, the 1997 National Collegiate Golf Coach of the Year, puts a premium on the short game in practice and during competition. Goss opens this video with an overview of the short game: how to get the ball into the air, the difference between the chip shot and the pitch shot (and when to use each), and why the bunker shot is the easiest shot in golf. Next, he gives detailed lessons on each shot in the short game. Each lesson includes the proper set-up, body motion, distance control, club selection, and practice tips. Also included is an advanced lesson on how and when to hit a flop shot. Coaches and golfers at all levels will benefit from Goss' insight into this critical aspect of golf. 1999. 51 minutes. Butch Harmon's Ultimate Golf: Short & Sweet:

Peter Krause, Short Game Interactive CD-ROM (1 in set of 4):
http://www.peterkrausegolf.com/videolessons.html

Short Game - will show you how to lower your score by improving your putting, chipping, pitching and bunker technique.

There are others, including Dalton McCrary, Seve Ballesteros, John Jacobs, Moe Norman, Eddie Merrins, and AJ Bonar. Of the above, Ray Floyd, David Leadbetter, and the Australian CD-ROM look to me to be the most likely to cover the full array of shots you describe.

I hope this is helpful.

Cheers!
