Coaching Golf Materials?

The middle school where I teach has decided to have a golf team next Spring. Fortunately they asked me to coach the team of 12, 13, and 14 year olds.

Does anyone know of any great books that might have valuable information on coaching golf to this age group?

Maybe one that includes drills, warm-up routines, ways to help their swings without causing technical overload, etc.

It doesn't necessarily have to be geared to this age group, it could be something that I could take and modify so that it could be applied to them.

Thanks for any help.

If you search Geoff's site, you'll find a wealth of information and many golf resources that offer golf instruction materials that would work for your group. When you have time, please visit my golf site at www.theputtingedge.com. I offer a putting booklet that might work well with your kids. You'll also find some putting tips there as well.

Nick Wright's Book, Tim Sheredy's Book

Dear TBB,

Nick Wright has a good book titled Junior Golf: A Complete Coaching Manual that is currently the best available.

My friend Tim Sheredy at the David Leadbetter Junior Golf Academy in Bradenton FL has a book coming out that is really a workbook for elite juniors, but any serious junior would benefit from it. When it comes out, I'm sure it will be great.

This page at Amazon.com lists some Junior Golf books that might be helpful.

This book by Bill Madonna, Coaching Golf Successfully. is a well-known standard.

The Young Americans Junior Golf Guide is a book for the competitive junior golfer who wants to play in national and regional competitions.

In addition, there are a handful of great websites for young golfers, including:

Rookie Golf

Junior Links

American Junior Golf Association

PGA of America Junior Golf section

USGA Pike's Peak Summit: Best Practices for Junior Programs

Junior Golf Scoreboard

Golfweek's Junior Golf section

I hope this helps!

Cheers!
