As part of my trying to expand the use of technology in teaching, I would like to encourage visitors to the PuttingZone to communicate with me and other visitors in realtime.
CHAT: That's why I've added a Flatstick Chat, accessible from the Main Forum page (top right) or from the Home page's navigation box. I hang out there as often as I can, usually mornings and mid-evenings in New York time (Eastern Standard Time Zone, 5 hours eariler than GMT). There is a very nice WorldTime link on the Home page, also.
PHONE: I now have VOIP Telephone service from Lingo.com. This is "Voice Over Internet Protocol" service that uses the Internet for phone calls instead of the phone company's system of land lines and microwave towers. This service allows me unlimited calling to anywhere in the US (including Hawaii and Alaska and Puerto Rico), all of Canada, and all of Western Europe from Ireland and Scandanavia to the continental countries. If you email me at
geoff@puttingzone.com and give me your telephone number and a time to call, we can talk on my nickle until you get tired of me.
INSTANT MESSENGER: I recently installed three brands of Instant Messenger that allow immediate realtime communications: AOL (AIM), MSN, and Yahoo Instant Messenger. If you already have any of these systems, just send me a message at screenname: "puttmagic" and add me to your Buddy List, or send me your email and I'll add you to my list. For MSN, you can add
geoff@puttingzone.com to your list. If you want to download any of these systems for your PC or Mac, they are available here:
MSN Messenger (Mac version)
MSN Messenger (Windows XP)
MSN Messenger (Windows 98 ME)
MSN Messenger (Windows 2000)
AOL Instant Messenger (AIM)
Yahoo! Messenger
These Instant Messenger systems are generally better than Chat and allow transfering pictures and other multimedia.
ICQ. I also obtained an ICQ account, 277025051. ICQ allows people to contact one another just like IM.
ICQ (Mac version)
ICQ (General OS page)
If you're interested in IM add-ons, here's the list of freebies:
CNET IM downloads list
FTP SERVER: The FTP server is a dedicated location for "File Transfer Protocol" transmissions of big files, for example videos of your putting stroke for analysis and comment. Email me for details and we can get around email server filters, file size limits, and slow upload times.
FUTURE PLANS. In the fairly near future I plan on adding realtime video, online conferences / meetings, and a wonderful thing called "push technology" which allows a multimedia, online seminar. So stay tuned!
Cheers!
