The Masters...Tiger's Shot at 16

Geoff, I was listening to a local sports talk radio show, KHTK AM, out of Sacramento last week and found this to be quite interesting. Not sure who was being interviewed, but the individual seemed to be in-the-know about NIKE advertising. I think we all recall Tiger Woods second shot at the par 3, 16th, where his ball 'teetered' on the edge of the cup for about 1-2 seconds before falling in for a birdie! Also, if you recall, the Nike "swash" logo was clearly visible to the television viewer before the ball dropped. It was reported that this particular closeup of Tiger's ball showing Nike's logo was replayed 5 times for the television viewing audience and Nike supposedly reported that each viewing was worth $1 million in advertising to them...so in total, $5 million in advertising! And, that The Master's Tournament owns the rights to that particular television closeup and can negotiate with NIKE to sell them the rights to use it in future advertising, if they desire! Evidently, if that happens, we could see the closeup again in a NIKE commercial in a week or so...so the interviewee said! It was also his opinion that no one will remember Tiger for his collapse following 16 and losing the next two holes to DiMarco at 17 & 18 to send it into a playoff, but would remember him for his phenomenal shot at 16 as the shot that won him The Masters. In my opinion, Tiger made a beautiful putt at 18 to win in sudden-death...looked very similar to Mickelson's putt at 18 last year to win.
