This putting technique may work for some, but there is a flaw in the technique that no one seems to be addressing...that is, accidentally moving the ball with your putter blade while looking at the hole! Geoff, back on your forum Nov. 17, 2005, we chatted briefly about the article: "Looking At The Hole While Putting," Golf Magazine, Oct. 2005. My concern...one can inadvertently move the ball while looking at the hole during setup and not know that they did it unless one of their group points it out! I had posted..."I played 18 holes yesterday with a friend and didn't realize he was using the new technique until I had observed him for a while and noticed ever so often that his putter blade would unknowingly come into contact with his ball, actually moving it while he was looking at the hole!" "I brought this to his attention and told him that he needs to be very careful during his set up and not move the ball with his putter blade, especially if playing in an important tournament!" In tournament play, this can result in a penalty stroke. "I'm with you Geoff, I just can't buy into this new putting technique!"
Also, during this timeframe I ran into another golfer that had read the article and was experimenting with the "Looking At The Hole While Putting" technique and it wasn't working that well for him as he ran several long putts past the hole by about 3-6 feet. He was so taken with the concept that he is even using it with some short chip shots...he informed me that it's a little more of a challenge making good contact with the 7-iron or pitching wedge while staring at the hole...go figure!!!

In any case, if the putting technique works for you, just be very careful not to move your ball while looking at the hole.
