Does anyone know of a make of putter that is 2 to 4 degrees open by design? I have heard that there are open faced putters around.

Thanks

Grip Handle Setting Open

You can accomplish the same thing by twisting the grip material of the handle 2-4 degrees closed. You might have to regrip to get this effect. I suggest experimenting with an old out-of-the-barrell putter, for only the cost of regripping (about $10).

If I find any putter manufacturers that do this, I'll post the info here.

Cheers!

Thanks Geoff.

The reason I ask is that I continue to find my stroke suited to left to right putts but when I get a straight or right to left breaking putt my miss tends to be left or low.

What would be the purpose of having an "open-faced" putter? Why would anybody need such a compensated putter?

For a right-handed putter, the handle thumb flat would have to be rotated CCW to open the putter face at address. To square the putter face to the ball at impact, the putter would have to be over-rotated assuming you start off with a squared putter grip thumb flat at address.

Of course you could square the putter face at address but that would result in a hand position very weakened. In any case, the function of the thumb flat would be defeated.

Perhaps a curvilinear gating stroke could require an "open" putter face, but in that case the thumb flat is rendered useless, and a circular grip is all that is necessary.

Your thoughts, Geoff ???
