My new putting drill for stroking it straight

Find a flat surface such as your home carpet.

Use a wooden rod with diameter between 2-3cm (about 3-4 feet long, not crucial as you will see).

Lean the rod against anything, so it's roughly vertical.

Place a ball 4-6 feet away from rod and putt to the bottom of the rod.

Your goal is to putt such that the ball hits the rod and stops. This can only be achieved by hitting it straight at the rod. The slightest deviation will send the ball sideways (like snooker or pool) after hitting the rod. This is gives you fantastic feedback on whether you're stroking it straight (assuming correct aim).

Nice One

I like this idea -- very creative! A similar effect occurs if you putt one golf ball against a second: if you hit the second ball so the line of the sweetspot of the first ball is moving "straight" thru the center of the second ball, upon impact the fist ball will replace the second ball and stop dead in its track while the second ball goes straight away. Anything off center won't produce this effect. The same happens in snooker when the cue ball strikes the second ball dead on.

Cheers!
