Dear Allan,
In my view, the left hand aims better because the right hemisphere in nearly everyone is more suited to spatial awareness of body-target, and the right side of the brain operates the left side of the body. I have a sense of aiming the back of the left hand at the target. I don't know how this would work for a left-handed golfer, since for him the left hand will be palm-facing towards the hole.
Harvey Penick used to advise carrying the putter in the left hand from fairway to green. Billy Casper emphasizes that the left hand sets the stroke direction. So they sort of are in the ballpark with me.
The effectiveness of the left hand in aiming is a bit difficult to appreciate, because everyone assumes that the "dominant" hand is best, and that's usually the right hand. You have to let the left hand have a fair trial at aiming while you don't prejude effectiveness.
Cheers!
