I've recently discovered Geoff's ideas and this site, and I'm really loving what it's done to my putting. The one thing that I'm still a little sketchy on, though, is equipment. I've been using an Odyssey White Hot XG #9 putter for a while now, but from what I understand a center-shafted, face-balanced putter would work better with the techniques Geoff espouses.
So I've been looking for putter recommendations, and I see a number of putters referred to as "good/great/acceptable putters", but I'm wondering if, for example, the Quantum putters are significantly better than, say, the Rife Two-bar Blade or a Q-Roll putter. Is there some place I can go to look for statistical comparisons, or is it really just a matter of trying out different putters? Or is the putter head less important than having the right lie angle and shaft length?
I'd love to try out a Quantum putter (especially since Geoff seems to endorse them and what their website says seems to make sense to me), but at $500 a pop, it's something I'd like to know a little more about before I take the plunge (especially if my putting stroke is going to continue to change while I'm incorporating Geoff's ideas into my game).
Why not stay with the Odyssey...they make a very nice center-shafted putter. One is shown on their site, the Odyssey White Hot XG#8. I use a Odyssey center-shafted putter, but forget the model at the moment, but not the XG#8 as I've had mine for a while. Here is the link for the XG#8. http://www.odysseygolf.com/products/whitehotxg/index.htm
I guess a part of me is intrigued by the idea of needing less loft on a putter, and the models I mentioned have either a lower loft or negative loft. I don't know if it really matters or not, but it appears some people seem to think so.
I would try a See More, they are great putters. You can get good deals on them. But the prices bring up a good point that gets tossed around from time to time. Guys have no problem paying $250, $300, $399 up to $800 for a driver that they use at most 14 times a round yet cringe when a putter has a heafty cost. It makes zero sense. Your putter should be your baby. A putter to a golfer should be like a favorite guitar to a guitar player. The most important and cherished piece you own.
I certainly don't mind paying for a putter . . . but I wouldn't pay $500 for a driver I couldn't try out beforehand either . At least not unless someone I had a great deal of respect for gave me some good reasons why it would fit me perfectly.
guys if you're looking at a putter that will correctly fit you unlike any other putter out there, then look no further than David Edel's putters who are custom made. These are worth the money. http://www.edelgolf.com/index.html
I have three Qroll putters forsale.. they are in like new condition and come with the headcovers. I have the model three at 35 and 33 inches and the model one also....
Thanks for all the offers, guys, but what I'm really interested in is whether or not there are real advantages to certain putter models, or if what's more important are things like the length and lie of the putter.
My $.02 here....1st time poster after meeting a guy who physically showed me how to read greens using the fall line method...pretty neat and I play off +4)
Putter models are solely a matter of personal preference...what model it is or how much it costs is pretty insignificant to the golf ball...YOU have to 1st like the look of the putter and how it sits on the target line. Try going on Ebay and look for an old PLOP putter...center shafted putters that are perfectly balanced do feel different than say a slight offset mallet which is what putter style I prefer.
Keep your old faithfull and just try out what a center shafted putter feels like 1st...I may have a nevercompromise VooDoo DaDDy for sale soon btw )
