Feel vs. Real are two separate things. I understand that, especially when you involve science and research.

That being said, I've read and heard that really great putters feel that the ball is on the face for a long time.

Is there any truth to that on solidly struck putts.

Thank you

Zone Timing and Slow Tempo

July 16 2008, 9:07 AM

Dear Chad,

A "non-percussive" impact stays on the face longer, a gravity-based tempo stroke stays on the face longer, and a golfer in the zone experiences "expanded time". So yes, SOME Tour players on SOME occasions may experience this, and there MAY be reality behind it to some extent when all three factors come together in a "Perfect Storm" sort of way. Certain baseball hitters feel there is an expanded time to see and hit the baseball even at 90 mph in excess of the normal time of perception and movement. The same goes for top tennis players.

Cheers!
