Yes, I have a system of baselining and recording and analyzing data so that:
1. we know where the golfer starts for many aspects of putting (subskills of the four skills);
2. we know in what aspects the golfer is making progress and by how much;
3. we know how the golfer compares to earlier and to now in terms of the baseline or in terms of earlier monitoring data;
4. we know how the golfer compares to other golfers for putting skills at the same handicap level;
5. we know how the golfer compares to elite performance standards;
6. we know how the golfer compares to personal performance goals;
7. we know whether specific teaching protocols are effective and to what extent;
8. we know what experiences teaching and learning among other golfers and teachers / coaches are effective that may work for this golfer.
For you, you should watch three different sorts of performance: 1. skill or subskill; 2. integration of all four skills in a practice context; and 3. performance during a round of golf in terms of scoring, putting stats, and skills performance.
Here are some suggestions for simple practice context monitoring:
STROKE: test your ability to stroke dead straight where aimed by some check like putting over level green at a tee peg some distance away and recording X hits of tee (with decent speed -- no jamming) out of Y trials; draw a stroke or aiming T on the green and test your ability to send X of Y putts straight off the end of the stem of the T;
TOUCH: test your ability to handle touch with one ball to different distances from different locations by placing a tee in the green with a ball on top and then backing off to some distant location with break involved and roll the ball as close as possible to the teed ball arriving from the high side and measure your pattern of results in 10 or so trials; aim a straight putt at a hole (uphill slightly is good) and draw a box in front of the hole 6"x6" and try to roll balls into the box but not in the hole and count success / failure X out of Y trials (change the distance and repeat);
READ: setup a spiral pattern of 10 or so balls around the hole at different clock positions with distance out increasing each ball by 1 foot and then proceed clockwise or CCW as you like and record how many you sink and which ones you miss; select a long lag with serious break and test your ability to NEVER allow the ball to leak to the low side of a direct line between ball and hole in X trials out of Y while also not cheating by just knocking the ball crazy to the high side;
AIM: inside a largish room, use a laser indicator on the putter head to test aiming assessment by aiming the putter face from 10 feet away solely from beside the ball at oblique angles to a specific spot along a baseboard (you might place a golf ball against the baseboard) and only after satisfying your self that the putter face aims dead on the target, then light up the laser and record left-center-right and if left or right how much and change the ball location and aim direction around in the room randomly each trial for 10 or so trials; change the distance and repeat a series of trial; go thru the same series of 10 or so trials but this time start the aiming from behind the ball with a full aiming routine; randomly aim the putter face at the baseboard, then setup to the putter face as aimed and assess exactly what spot it aims to, light the laser, and record left-center-right plus how much off for a series of 10 or so trials to different aim spots and directions at the same distance; change the distance and repeat the series; using a small rectangle (a sleeve box for golf balls aimed sideways or a pack of chewing gum will do), stand behind the box and assess exactly what spot on a baseboard it aims at and then use a laser to check and record your results.
