Dear Brendan,
I teach golf putting, and that means I don't fixate on television golf and frankly haven't been paying attention to Tiger's putting. Every time I read what he says about his problems, it is obvious to me that he lacks basic skills and understanding of what causes what. For example, he recently blamed his poor putting in missing the cut on failure to get used to the green speed. Well, the other 153 players in the field didn't complain about it. That's his usual excuse.
Looking just at his stats, he seems to perform very well in the killing zone for scoring with his putting. But then he has these major lapses that are pretty frequent and chronic. So he lacks basic skill. Anyone who does not know what the problem is after a round of poor putting lacks basic understanding.
Cheers!
