    Books vs the Net

As a student, i admit that it is much easier to source my information from the net than it is to paw through rows and rows of books from a library bookshelf. In addition to that there are lots of online journals and pdf versions of books and research papers.
Do you think that the more adept we become with our level of technology, the less we would need libraries, and eventually there would be no such thing as a library?

Contrary to that, there is nothing like a good book.

Definitely so, I have been doing research and have not even bought a journal from the library or where ever, oh...come to think of it, I haven't sent foot in the library to do anything apart to print a poster for my conference presentation awhile ago..so you are right, I agree!! more apt you become to technology, more efficent and convinent it becomes for you.

    Kolwan my friend,
I beg to differ. Books are still my friends in a way the Internet/Computer never can be.

My copies of Shakespeare and Tsun Tzu, to name just two, are well thumbed through, and bookmarked with pieces of card. They provide provide a fast indexing system, superior to even the best Computer.

I find that when researching something via the internet, it is often hard to get the whole story. One has to go from site to site, because each one has only excerpts.

No, I would still rather curl up in a corner with a good book, than hunch over my computer. Though I readily admit, that the computer can save a lot of boot leather in tracking something down. Both have their uses.

    Regards......Ralph.

Agree with you definitely 100%. I was refering to information sourcing, how to find where, and if your information is available.

Can't replace books when studying and research, my apologies if i was typed something....all my text books, journal papers have been bought online and delivered to my door step instead of the library. I have heaps of books that I have gone through and some more that I need to go through. :)

    cheers
