I'm totally at lost, PNG men are now potrait as wife beaters, animals and less life form in the world. This so totally stupid!

You might want to rephrase all of that. If you are going to argue that this media attention is making PNG men in general look bad, then fine.
However, calling it a 'stupid petition' is sheer ignorance!!
The petition draws awareness to the plight of abused women and hopefully, laws will be made to prevent further abuse.
Years from now you might have your own family, and daughters. How would you react if your daughter's partner ripped out her child from her womb and then poured hot water over her?

Interesting discussion took place with a group of UPNG students about domestic violence.

Whilst most of the discussions revolved around the current discussions going on including tougher penalties, reframing of laws etc 2 girls gave wider views. This includes the following paraphrased points!

1. Whilst the focus currently is on abuse
against women there is a generally unacceptable level of violence against all members of society in PNG.

2. This suggests the underlying problem is one of poor bringing up of children to find peaceful means of conflict resolution usually by discussion and mediation.

a. man brought up with deficiciencies find it difficult to resolve conflicts by reason and resort to violence

b. women brought up with these deficiencies often do or say things that are provocative to a male with similar deficiencies without resorting to thoughtful discussions.

c. relatives brought up with inabliltiy to resolve conflicts (and who have been brought up to think women should submit to their husbands)have short sighted veiwpoints and condone such actions

d. leaders brought up with inabliltiy to resolve conflicts (and who have been brought up to think women should submit to their husbands)have short sighted veiwpoints and condone such actions.

The conclusions of these discussions were that in the short term strengthening laws and bringing in means to enforce adequate punishment,in the long term children both males and females should be brought up to respect each other and learn to solve problems peacefully and by discussion rather than by resorting to violence.

More than 1 of the female students stated that their fathers were sometimes subjected to verbal abuse by their mothers which would be bad enough to cause a fight and that measures to address must address both gender; one to be mindful of their words and actions and the other not to resort to violence.

A very small section of the male population would remain pathological domestic violence proponents and these ones would need the full force of the law to be brought against them.

I personally believe that solution to understand problems stems from upbringing. Family units must be strengthens, parks, gardens, recreation activities for families promotes such understand. Parks and recreation designated spots are not just for the beauty of the eyes, but to encourage family to spend quality time together, there by learning conflict resolution within family, consideration, understanding, patience and most importantly respect.
