Worried Mama  (no login)

Hi Ladies,

My toddler son is a little over 2 yrs and hasn’t mouthed any words yet apart from “mama”. He is full of energy and behaves like any little boy but he is too stubborn when it comes to talking. We speak to him, read books & try to make him pronounce simple words but he just ignores us. My friend's daughter who is a week younger than him has been talking for a yr now. I am worried and even thinking of making an appointment with a speech therapist.

Am I worried for nothing or should I have a reason to be? If any mother has had similar experience with their children, pls. share. Thanks.

Sorry, I know its for the ladies, but I have a 3yr daughter so couldn't help but reply.

I think daughters growup faster, just keep at it, sometimes boys are bit more stubborn then girls. It would help to take him to parks, zoo and anything naturally colorful. Something that make him want to say something.

And sometimes, if he wants sometime, don't give it to him at the same instance, wait for him to get annoyed. He might say "drink" or something like that.

Be creative, kids have a creative mind.

My son was over 2 before he started talking, I never thought it was a problem until one day he had a high temperture and both his ears starting expelling wax.

His ears where flushed out because of the large amount of wax built up over the years that muffled sounds and affect his ability to hear sounds and talk.

A lot of children also suffer from "glue ear" this condition muffles sound.

Not saying this is the problem, but might be an idea to go to the doctors for a check up to be sure there might be some other problem.

Cheers
