People in this part of the world are among some of the friendliest one can ever come across.Its a "Welcome" kantri.Yes these are some notable features of the NILPIS land that capture our attention .Their attitude is stunning.
People here dont seem to suffer from the economic turmoil that coils PNG and spirals it downwards towards the earth's crust.They are unfazed and life goes on. But the interesting feat here is that this minerally-rich island province seems to be governed by an unstable pirate island style politics,which is"smoothly" rough. And what's amazing is, People seem to leave politics to New Irelanders who are of Chinese heritage.Familiar names like Julius chan,Byron Chan,Ian Ling Stuckey,and rewind the clock back to the provincial government era when the majority of them were in the local assembly which was headed by a Premier Robert Seeto in the 70s,80s.
Many Chinese-New Irelanders apart from the Chans and Ling Stuckey have always been involved in Politics since day one.And the People dont see them differently,to them they New Irelanders and if you think they maybe different because of their appearance and skin-collor,then you are color blind.This is the most important tool that a government needs to have -the positive attitude of the people- this is needed so the government can easily carry out its plans and deliver accordingly.
But right now that hasnt been happening because the local government has never been so positive.During Ian Ling Stuckey's political term he was never in good terms with another fellow New Ireland MP who is ofcourse of chinese heritage like him,Mr Byron Chan.The cat fight between them had tons and tons of domino effect on the development of the province,the infrastructure,people's lives etc..They were members of different political parties-who repelled each other like hell.They saw and still see each other differently.Ian Ling Stuckey hijacked the provincial assembly sittings to his Lemus island.(Nilpis version of Cayman island).This is a pirate style politics that rocked Nipsco but again people were unfazed.There was no protest by the people,no boycott etc.If this was in the highlands,people's agression would have turned heaven into hell.The negative attitude of Stuckey and Chan is in contrast to that of the beautiful people of New Ireland.These very people saw nothing different with their ancestral background and voted them in,these very people saw nothing wrong with their skin colour and voted them in, these very people saw nothing wrong with them being part chinese and voted them in,they werent color blind when it came to the race issue,to them,these two were New Irelanders. Yet these two lads let them down by doing the opposite and caused alot of distraction to the province's progress.They hated each other and did not see each each other as fellow New Irelanders,they put their own parties and interest first.So sad.these two educated who lacked what the simple people had-""common understanding and positive attitude""-Very Ironic.
What New Ireland needs is a proper government.,The current leaders shouldnt look far for a role model government,just look across to its neighbouring Province of East New Britain(ENB) and learn from them.The ENB government is by far the most active(like tavurvur), positve and well run in the country without a doubt.Their leaders led the people through the hard times,volcanic crisis etc and they came out on top.The ENBP has no mineral resources unlike the highlands provinces and New Ireland yet the province is booming positively .New Ireland govt has to wake up and learn fron ENB.New Ireland has the biggest diamond mine in the South Pacific , on Tabar island,-Lihir has Gold,New Hanover(lovongai) has gold,the whole province has been touched by King Midas,all it needs is a governent system like that of ENBP.If this govt change takes place in New Ireland,with its rich mineral resouces and the beautiful postive attitude of the people than I wont be surprise if New Ireland becomes the "DUBAI" or the KUWAIT of the South Pacific.Its a matter of change and a matter of time.
