Response to Re: US$100m ethanol plan taking shape in Central

Yes @ mE,
sustainability is the problem.

In Aust it is suainability of feedstock, that is holding all commercial ethanol plants up. They are just not commercially viable at this stage.

In the USA, they are planting millions of hectares of Corn for their ethanol industry. Of course, the USA is a huge country, with an agricultural sector which has huge productive capacity, if required.

I personally think, it would take quite a few years to ramp-up production sufficiently, to even produce enough Ethanol for even E20 fuel. As for E85, that would be a long way off.

So my conclusion....It is possible, but it will take a huge investment, and a lot of time. Unfortunately, most people in PNG seem to want instant returns.(Especially the politicians) So whether the will to do it remains, after a few years, is another matter.

Regards......Ralph.
