first of all...i love my Talon SS and i have put alot of work into it lately
well actually its not an SS the frame is a condor frame, but otherwise its an SS
my real SS was scratched and abused when i got it second hand so that was my project rifleframe from the get go, and i liked my SS more then the condor so i moved the SS parts into it.
it has condor hammerweight, trigger is poslished up and lubed with molycote and teflon powder efter it got a millitech treatment, it didnt help a whole lot though
I had trigger 1 stage adjustment mod and trigger travel mod, made it a bit more nice, some of the springs has been replaced
condor hammerweight was rough but has been polished up, and blued....regular hammer is stock(for now)
12" stock AF barrel, front bushing vented alot, and frame is vented just before the last bushing, between bushing is tighly wounded fleece, and when i shoot i can feed some air comming out of the frame where its drilled, so its definatly taking off some backpressure in there, the fleece serves to slow down the air before its vented and it really helps...if you dont like to drill the frame you can also drill the rear barrel bushing, but this will give the shooter a small plast of air, and possibly exspose you to the leaddust that collects, i choose the frame...you cant really see it any way.
valve has been drilled to 3.4mm, portholes has been ported/smothed, new delrin cut more squarely than stock allmost flat compared to the cone shape the original has. return spring has been replaced with a super light spring of thin wire, and the spring retainer drilled out to give more flow, tophat is turned all the way in as far as it will go, so the travel is very limited.
with PD it does 762 fps 38.689 fpe muhahahaha, it does 760 (36.1fpe) with EJ also, which i find a bit strange, with lighter stuff like CM it makes 32 fpe i usually dont like Crowmagnums since i find them inaccuarte, but in my 20-25y yard they are dead on and delivers a good blow to the squirrels, and i dont shoot any further than that when im home so im happy.
all the tuning for power comes at a cost however....its gotten loud, the frame can only do so much even with pickled, so a shroud is necersary for backyard shooting if no one must know...in the open its queit enough noone will notice...just between houses and all its a bit loud(loud is the wrong word but it aint silent no more) and shot count is down somewhat, i get about 20 good highpower shots....and 20 medium shots and its time to refill
but all most 39 FPE with PD impressive....just too much power for backyard shooting, as the houses is close, and i dont want a flier/ricoshet to end up in someones yard, so for the moment i like the CM with their poor BC, and lighter weight....is gonna loose most of its power in flight, or if it hits something...say a squirrel.....i tested BD on a squirrel, and it went right through 2 of them lined up(dead), CM tends to stop in the critter
i only have 20 PD left and im saving those for the range...more to come once i get my self dragged down there and actually shoot something
