The "step" you mention is the actual bullet diameter that rides the bore. The driving band at the rear engages the rifling.

The bullets shown are just "concept" test pieces to show what the tooling can do. Weight can run from 16 to 60+gr and the driving band can be made to different diameters to suit the power output of the chosen rifle.

These bullets can also be made in a frangible format to make them violently expand into three petals. Expansion can be set for a little or alot, by the way in which the core is pre-stressed prior to the final form being shaped.

Unless you single load in the Rapid then you are restricted on projectile weight, by the length the magazine will accomadate.
