According to my acupuncturist, some people have a long run up to the surge and others a short surge. It might be that you can O at any time after the surge starts, or only once it has finished - I don't know - but that might be why OPK kits say O will be 24 - 36 after you see the two lines (obviously not so easy for those of us with high LH, so the lines are dark all the time). I would have thought the former rather than the latter, so if you start BDing as soon as there are signs of the surge, you must give yourself the best chance. Also, if your best chance is in the 5 days up to O and only one day after, I wouldn't wait until the OPK is clearly positive if there are other signs of O. And of course a temp rise will tell you whether you got it right or not!
