Response to OPK experience -- 7 hour window for positive

I usually tracked my lh by using opk's and the cbfm. The cbfm is practically useless but what the heck, I'm a peeonastickaholic.

The cbfm will continuously give me high days even after the opk's show a surge, peak and taper off.

I too used the opk's several times a day and discovered that I have a short surge (6 hrs. or so). But then I always feel o/v, so I know that I usually o/v around 12 hrs. after the peak of the surge, on a natural cycle. Sometimes a few hrs. less, sometimes a few more.

I hardly ever have ewcm and don't like checking cp, but I temp to detect when my temperature rises. Usually, it's right.

I've learnt a few things:

1. that the cbfm "doesn't" work unless you have perfect hormone levels according to clearblue's standards.

2. I have a very short surge.

3. I o/v soon after a surge (about 12 hrs) unless I get a trigger shot then it's more around 12 - 24 hrs after a surge.

4. In most cycles I have a double ovulation, the second usually happens within 12-24 hrs of the first, even on a natural cycle.

5. I don't always have my temp shoot up after o/v. Sometimes it's slow rise but again, I always feel o/v so there's no doubt there.

6. The trick is in finding the peak of your surge and then figuring out how soon after that you will realease an egg.

7. that the fertile window for up to 5 days doesn't really count very much when you have fertility issues like some of us on this board, especially if your cm isn't the best or if you have mf issues. The best thing is to try to time fertilization within hrs of the egg being released. If you tend to feel o/v, then try to dtd as soon as you start to feel o/v pain and do it once again after the pain subsides.

If you don't feel o/v then try to dtd as soon as your surge tapers off and then at 12 - 24 hr intervals after that, until o/v is confirmed one way or the other.

Z.
