Quiet ovaries, hot flashes - advice appreciated

I read these boards regularly although I have never posted. I have learnt a lot from all the ladies here. I have been trying to conceive #1 for 2.9 years now and have not had much success. Last fsh was 17, lowest 13. Also two cancelled ivfs due to very poor response. I have been trying herbs and accu and good nutrition but I don't seem to be able to get rid of my hot flashes. They had disappeared for 3 months but they are back again with a vengeance. My estrogen is at a good level and my doc doesn't know why I would be getting them. I also had an u/s on day 11 of my current cycle and it showed that my ovaries are quiet this month and no follicle showed.

I would like to know if anyone has had natural cycles where no follicles were seen; also if they did go on have follicles on later cycles. I am scared that I have stopped ovulating completely! Do ovaries go through some cycles where there are no follicles, and then go on to have follicular activity? Please help with any info as I'm feeling really sad that my diet and herbs have not seemed to work.

Also, any advice on the stopping the hot flashes would be most welcome (accu and herbs do not work for me and my doc does not want to give me estrogen as it suppresses ovaries).
