2day transfer vs 5 day transfer

I had my consultant with Zhang. (For those of you reading, that don't know history, I just got a BFN after attempt #1)

He wants to do a 5 day transfer this time instead of a 2 day so we can see how they are growing. What are your thoughts on this, from what I understand they have a better chance of surviving on a 2 day transfer.

Thanks ladies!

Again, I'm sorry about your BFN.....

I'm not sure how many embies you had with the last cycle?? Did you txfer them all? If you did there is no reason to leave them out to look at them on day 5. If you had more than 10 then maybe day 5 with PGD?

If you only had a few on the last cycle and this is your REs answer to a BFP I think you need a 2nd opinion.

HTH.

Best,
Lindy

Hi Lindy - Thanks for your response. I was on low stims and only had two eggs, we did a two day transfer, one was 4 cells and the other was 6.

I guess the doctors thinking is to see if the eggs are healthy or not by doing a 5 day transfer, but I'm not sure which way to go.

Thanks! GraceRose

I'm honestly concerned for his rationale?? It is very true that an embie should do better in our uterus then in a petri dish. If you only have 2 and you are going to txfer both then day 2 is the only way to go IMHO. This is not the answer to a BFP.

Not even debatable.

IVF is a numbers game. If you are happy with the low stim and the protocol I'd do it again.

Good luck.

Best,
Lindy

I think a lot of it depends on your RE, your situation, and how many embryos you have. My RE proposed 5 day transfer for me because of concern around uterine rupture with multiples given that I have had extensive uterine surgery for fibroids. The thought is that best embryos will survive until day 5, so that fewer embryos will be transfered and the risk/chance of multiples is significantly reduced.

My actual decision to go to day 5 was made with RE on day 3 - we had 8 embryos on day 3 and 4 of them made it to day 5. If we had fewer, then we would likely have transfered what we had on day 3 and let it go from there.
