| DHEA, fish oil, acupuncture, thyroid replacement OR melatonin???May 16 2008 at 10:42 AM No score for this post | Dawn (no login) |
| I feel better than I have felt in YEARS.
I started DHEA 2 months ago, fish oil 2 months ago, acupuncture 1 1/2 months ago, thyroid replacement 1 month ago and melatonin 2 weeks ago.
I'm guessing it's the thyroid....but what do y'all think?? Or a weird wonderful cocktail combo...
I'm sharper, less foggy, less tired, more energy and happier.

Hmm. I'm still looking for the magic combination, and I've been taking fish oil and doing acupuncture. I'm considering the DHEA and want to do more research on melatonin. My thyroid has tested ok, but I don't think it's ever been done on cd3, so perhaps I need to get it tested on that day?
I hope everything continues well for you and you get your bfp soon! |

that i decided to try dhea on my own a couple of years ago and although it made me feel better overall, it did absolutely nothing for quantity or quality of eggs - and when i took a blood test 6 months later, whatever hormone was affected by dhea was almost off the charts high. my periods were drastically shortened also. so i am a bit wary of trying new things without talking to a doc. that said, my re (i live in a small town)doesn't like to try new things, and blames all my failures on my age. however he is willing to do iui every month which makes up for a lot(it is not expensive. i would be curious as to what your doc says about taking it. thanks much! |

maca pill and powder raw, organic. imho worthless waste of money and it tasted dreadful. so even though i would be willing to try new things i am now a little wiser about my possible reactions.... |

So, I didn't ask. I figure I'll stop a couple days before my period comes.
I'm also reading about ways to encourage natural melatonin production. It mostly involves having less bright light in the evening, sleeping in the dark and getting lots of bright light first thing in the morning.

According to Medlineplus; Chasteberry ( Vitex agnus-castus ) may increase natural secretion of melatonin in the body, based on preliminary research. |

Thanks for posting that info. I've always read that Vitex suppresses FSH, but increases LH. Melatonin is supposed to suppress LH, but whenever I take exogenous melatonin, my LH actually creeps upward. So, I wonder what effect the Vitex would have. Maybe that is why it supposedly increases LH. Of course, not everyone has the increase in LH from melatonin, so who knows.
I did actually dabble with Vitex a few years ago and it didn't mess up my cycles then, but I didn't have any b/w to see if it had an effect on my LH levels.
Anyway, I'm babbling, but thanks for the post. You've given me something else to look into. |
