Help? I have to choose b/t Harvard Pilgrim and Tufts at 4 today and I have the mc issue

Does anyone know how long you have to wait with Harvard Pilgrim after a conception?

I totally forgot about this.

It turns out unicare looks really great. HP is better for FSH but I forgot that I am 6 mos. from an unmedicated conception.

Does HP make you wait a year?

Crud. I only have a few hours and HP did not send me the info in time. For some reason they can't answer this over the phone...

Unicare seems very lax on the age thing though.

But I won't qualify with Tufts either because my FSH is 12.2 and I am over 42 and it has to be 12.

I believe 6months from m/c you can reapply for infertility coverage.

This is my dilemma.

For the FSH I don't qualify under Tufts. Or won't, the next time I get tested.

For the 6 mo. to 1 yr. thing I probably won't qualify under HP.

I don't qualify under unicare, which seems to have the most liberal policy. Because IF is all about the 1 yr. thing.

I wish I had remembered that not all of them let you reapply after 6 mos.

I will qualify in June when I still have Tufts but they are out to get me so I really doubt they will get their act together sufficiently. I'm on day 12 or so...so I really don't have that much time to get approved for the next cycle.

Wow, negotiating insurance is hard. I keep thinking about going to law school. I really wonder if I'm having such trouble with this whether the law is the right career for me.

I really don't know, Orchid. I can only share my experience. I am 41.5. I am with Harvard Pilgrim. We did IUI last May, then another - both unsuccessful. Then a 3rd IUI in late summer - BFP - but m/c'd at 7 weeks. Then another IUI in late November that was not successful. Needed 3 IUI's to proceed with IVF with Harvard Pilgrim. We threw the 4th one in there at the last minute so as to not miss a month.

Got approved for IVF, my RE's office handled everything. I turned 41 in December. We did BCP's in December/January, then IVF in late January on a MDL protocol.

My FSH was previously over 15, but I had shingles at the time, which we were all quite sure affected it. But then did CCCT and it came in around 10. My E2 was right at the Harvard Pilgrim limit of 75. I think it was 72 or 74, that was the scarier number for me for insurance. But thank goodness I "passed" it for insurance.

Harvard Pilgrim has been great with me. I'm on an 80/20 situation, so IVF cost about $2,000 and drugs, with co-pays, probably a few hundred dollars. Not sure if that helps at all. I know at age 42, it will probably all come to a screeching halt if we try again for a second. (We are 18 weeks pregnant with our first from IVF.)

Also, I think chapter2 or someone posted ALL of HP's requirements, so you may want to do a search. Maybe 2-3 months ago.

GOOD LUCK! I know how challenging it is to navigate these waters. Another idea, if you have a good RE and good insurance person there, talk to them, they know the regs inside and out. For each and every insurance company. Use them as a resource.

Thanks!!!

I forgot that the loss I had six months ago would count against me on a new insurance.

I guess I have to risk it. I have NO idea what my E2 # is. What if that is screwed up???

But no doctor said there was an issue. That doesn't mean anything, I know.

A suggestion

No matter who you go with, they will probably make you take a CCCT again. If that's the case, I might suggest that you fill the prescription but don't take it. That's your call. I have read about that approach on this site before. That's a personal choice. They test for FSH, not for clomid in your system...that might give you a fighting chance.....?

Good luck with it all. It's tough when you are in a state that has coverage, but only if you are under 40 do they keep it simple and streamlined. Or if you do not have any issues.

Good luck...all of us over 40's and high FSH'ers that live in Mass feel for you and have lived it.

Anyone? I know I'm an idiot for not asking this question before...

Sorry about that.

I really wonder about HP!!! They sure as hell make it hard for you to find out about their plan. You can't search the web for it unless you are a member. They don't email you the information. When you call them, they don't call you back.

Hello?

Sigh.

Someday we need to talk about how being infertile makes you kind of feel like a criminal. You are such a PARIAH to insurance companies. They want to get rid of you ASAP.

I honestly had a hell of time with them. That's how I got all flustered. Talking to them rattles me. They didn't even return my phone calls.
