IUI vs. IVF

I know doubleL doesn't post here anymore, but wondering if anyone knows why she did all those IVFs instead of IUIs.

Before I call it quits, I'm thinking of going back to a few IUIs after the hyperbaric treatments and cleansing since I was able to get fertilization without ICSI for the past 2 IVFs I did this spring. I'm now 46 years young (I know, how pathetic to say that!), so only a few more tries left in this old bird.

I'm using donor sperm and am wondering whether maybe it does live longer than Check said since I had 2 embies with late fertilizations and the embryologist said sperm was still visibly living and "swarming the eggs" 2 days past retrieval. However, I'm not dismissing that I may have hostile CM that zaps it quick. Ayy, conundrum (!): IUI that's cheaper but perhaps no chance vs. IVF that's more invasive and a complete pain to go through w/travel, etc. Any way to get over hostile CM?

TIA! Happy 4th to all who celebrate!

Totally torn between one final IVF or 3 or 4 more IUI's......granted I'm down a tube.....so the IVF might make more sense.....but with follies on my good side...I just don't know, maybe IUI's make more sense to get more tries. You see so many natural cycle and IUI success stories. Totally split in half about making that call. Hope you have a great 4th too!

xoxo, Tracy

I've heard of are only for BDing...like PreSeed, Benadryl..oh, and cutting out dairy and wheat and coffee and alcohol, and taking wheatgrass or alfafa juice or spirulina or other alkalinising tonics...
Probably not that relevant to your picture....but maybe?

baking soda douche

is what I was told at Checks office.
We did a post coital and had issues.
They sent me home and told me to take mucinex and to douche with water and baking soda about 1/2 hour before intercourse.
We did that and came back the next day for much better results.
The mucinex should be started on day one of cycle and continued every day tol ovulation. And drink lots of water, it is needed to get the mucus thinner.

i did not think clearly about what you posted.
These ideas were for bd'ing too.
But I thought with IUI cm was not an issue at all?
Since they inject past the cervix?

antibiotics

My CM improved on cycles where I was taking antibiotics from day 1-10. I did it when working with dr. Attila Toth in NYC. Stopped after about four cycles because DH was refusing to take his antibiotics.

But recently I was back in antibiotics because of having had a cyst removed, and CM was superabundant. So I think it made a difference. Dr. T says it is because sub-clinical infections like mycoplasm bacteria, interfere with fertility in a lot of ways, including making the cells that produce CM less efficient.

I understood CM doesn't matter at all for IUI

Because you bypass the CM altogether and put washed sperm up into the uterus near the tubes. So, you would still have a chance with IUI even if your CM is hostile. The only time it would make a difference is if you are doing ICI rather than IUI. Hope this makes sense ...

Good luck with your decision.

Good info!

I think I am going back to IUI. Dr. Check originally told me last year to do IUIs but that it would take more tries (7-8 was his guess). The stress, cost, etc. of IVFs are just too much for me these days. Going back to as au naturale as I can get happy.gif.
