Femara question, need help

What would be the REASON in using Femara IF you are ovulating normally?

I wonder why REs prescribe it for use in fertility treatments with women in their 40s who do NOT have anovulatory but have a regular surge of estrogen/LH and then a peak followed by ovulation.

Would the theory then be to stimulate MORE activity in follicles or ensure that the eggs are fully developed when the surge for ovulation occurs?

Just very curious.

I usually got multiple follicles. They use it as an alternative to injectibles or with injectibles. Femara is my wonder drug. happy.gif.

Well just had an AFC and really wondering what is going on!

And I have three huge follicles that my RE says I should trigger now with Ovidrel. I am only on day 10 of my cycle and usually ovulate on CD 12 or 13. I guess if she says I am ready I am ready? My lining is 9.5.

So weird because my Clear Blue Fertility Monitor would normally give me highs prior to a peak and now I am on CD 10 with no highs.

I guess we will hope for best?

Really wondering what in the world is going to happen but she said my body is responding better than she had hoped.

For what it is worth on the last two CD 3 AFCs I was 8 total on one reading and 6 total on the other.

It sounds about right. Once you trigger it takes about 36 hours for ovulation to occur. If she's having you trigger on day 10, it'd be pretty close to the normal time you ovulate.

I don't have anovulatory cycles either, they have me on Femara to just improve my ovulation.

I am getting ready to inject myself. I realize that this is a bit of a "hail mary" pass for me given that I am 45 and my RE doesn't have much faith in my old body BUT so far I haven't been AS BAD as she has imagined that I would be SO if you are into sharing positive thinking and prayers, please send them my way.

Many hugs and much love.

PS: I feel like a bloated cow already, what IN THE HECK is going on?!

Doesn't Femara keep your E2 low?

I think it stimulates FSH to stimulate follicles, but your E2 stays low. If that is the case, the monitor might not get a high reading even though the follicles are growing. Tracy, is this correct?

I use OPK's....

and not the monitor, so I don't know. I think E2 comes up within a day or two of stopping....so if you stopped on day 5....E2 would have a chance to come up to normal levels by day 10 onward.

I asked for bloodwork and

My E2 was 172.

She said my estrogen was doing what it was supposed to do otherwise my lining would not be 9.5

She said my LH and FSH were where they were supposed to be.
I had a nosy 11 year old listening (or trying to) and I didn't ask those #s

I have to just have faith at this point,
Plus it is a full moon wink.gif

Tracy-

Sorry if this is a dumb question--so can u take femera to get more follies on a natural cycle? Would you also add a trigger or not? What cycle day do you take it? When are you monitored? Im going back overseas in a few weeks and plan to try naturally with a boost.(if I were back in nyc permanently I would do banking). My doctor there can do femera or clomid, and he is a pretty good doctor but its hard with the language barrier (German). So I wanted to come up with an uncomplicated protocol to try to improve chances (my latest amh was .2--very sucky)..and was thinking femera since it wouldnt mess with my lining..thanks for your thoughts!

Femara would be an easy thing for you to do. happy.gif Just do OPK's to help with timing. You should get a natural LH surge and not need a trigger. It also shouldn't mess with your lining, it clears from the system quickly. I usually do one a day CD 2- 6. Here is a good article on letrazole/Femara. http://www.infertilityspecialist.com/letrozole.html Good luck!!!
