I hope this will help those you you struggling with "too many papers" First of all don't feel overwhelmed if you have papers,
papers everywhere. Most paperwork can be sorted into FIVE catagories. That's right FIVE. I will do my best to make it as
simple as possible using D.O.R.I.S. as our guide. Meet Doris:
D- Doubt-----This category is used for questionable papers. We
all have those... These are those pesky papers that we do not know the answer to the question "Should they stay or should they go?" Go ahead and keep those papers for now. With tax time less than 6 months away it is better to be safe than sorry. You can always toss them once you have determined you no longer need them.
O- Out----- This one is a no brainer..... trash! Receipts for items you no longer own, most grocery receipts, unless you are a refunder like me and need to send in a receipt for an offer like
a free t-shirt, etc. instruction leaflets for appliances you no longer own, recipes you cut out and tried and no one liked them,
etc.
R- Route----- Mail or Paperwork belonging to someone else or needing someone elses atterntion or signature, etc.
I- Insurmountable.....Receipts needed to be filed with your taxes, gas receipts for reimbursements, travel vouchers, etc.
Anything that is a "top priority." In other words "priceless"
S- Sprout-----Color Cards (from paint center) for a room you may be thinking of painting or re-painting, pages from magazines with decorating ideas, projects you may be working on for that job promotion, or suggestion box at work, pages from catalogs
of gift ideas, woodworking plans, or ideas from that home improvement magazine, etc. Anything "in the works".
Anytime you feel overwhelmed with papers, THINK D.O.R.I.S.
